Dispelling Shadows Pt 4 2/? anonymous July 30 2011, 04:42:58 UTC
A bloodcurdling screech froze him in his tracks. His joints stiffened and his chest constricted until it began to strangle his shallow breaths. Alarm and terror seized him after the glass-shattering scream pierced a hole in his bleeding phantom heart, spreading through every piece of him. Recognition tore apart his mind, shredding whatever assumptions and reservations he had before about the box and leaving them scattered in a chaotic mess. The ranger barely found the sense to throw himself forward and reveal the horror show underneath the concealing cardboard walls.

“Jessie? Jessie are you under here?” Buzz cried, begging his creator to prove him wrong.

The light revealed everything and more. Blinking hard against the sudden luminescence and straddling on top of a bound Jessie was the newer version of himself. The cowgirl shivered from underneath him, her eyes shut tight and her breathing trembling. Bonnie’s Buzz took her in first, his eyes bulging and his mouth dropping open after a mere second of seeing her. His gaze soon honed in on the obvious cause of her condition, whose sight had cleared and whose face hinted guilty shock.

When their blue eyes met, Bonnie’s Buzz snapped.

Charging forward the older ranger grabbed the neckline of his counterpart’s suit and heaved him off Jessie. Henry’s Buzz had no time to react before he found himself slammed violently against the wall and receiving well-deserved hits to the face. Bonnie’s Buzz decked him swiftly and mercilessly, allowing no retaliation or defense against him, referring back to all his mock training and instinct to punish the toy before him. Rage convulsed throughout his body, scalding his circuits and igniting his strength. The horrifying image he saw burned clearly into his mind’s eye, serving as a reminder and as a motivator to continue his assault. It tormented him too much.

“You. Bastard!” The older space toy hissed in between punches, all of his reservations long gone. “How. Dare. You. Touch. Her!!”

Henry’s Buzz couldn’t respond. Every second delivered several blows to his face and consciousness finally began to fail him. Still nowhere near finished, Bonnie’s Buzz shoved him against the wall again just to satisfy his furious nerves. He wanted to inflict even worse pain than Jessie had possibly felt on the poor excuse for a Buzz Lightyear toy. He wanted him to writhe, to suffer…to die.

“B-Buzz! What are you doing?!”

The older ranger barely made out the stunned tone of Barbie’s voice, his focus wholly captured on the slumped toy in his vice grip. He never hesitated and felt no desire to answer, letting the disturbance pass.

“Buzz, please! Stop! Why are you…oh my goodness, Jessie!”

The cowgirl’s name slowed Buzz’s actions a fraction and cooled his frenetic temper a degree. It fished out his concern and apprehension for her from beneath the surface of the thrashing, enraged waters deep within him. The sensation barely lasted when his ire returned, waves crashing against his chest. It would not leave him alone and he did not want it to; it fulfilled his desire for vengeance, for justice against the one who harmed his Jessie so disgustingly.

Raising a fist to strike his helpless successor again, the ranger quickly found his attack impeded by something wrapping around his arm. Livid, he whirled around to face whoever dared interrupt him, but sparkled, purple tentacles subdued him quickly, binding him firmly around his arms and torso. Suddenly lifting away from his victim, Buzz struggled to free himself, but soon found himself once again settled on his feet.

“Buzz, calm down!” Ken appeared before him, stress and something else, fear perhaps, riddled his expression.

“No!” Buzz roared, yelling as he thrashed about. “Let me go, Ken! I have to make him suffer! I have to make him know what he’s truly done! I…I want to kill him!”

The Mattel doll took a small step back, anxiety spreading across his features at the confession. Nevertheless, he stood his ground and breathed deeply.

“Buzz, Jessie needs you right now.” He notified decisively, standing up a bit straighter. “We’ll take care of…what’s left of Henry’s Buzz. You’ve done more than enough with him.”

The ranger breathed heavily for a moment, but his logic and common sense began to turn on again, the wrath seething within him having subsided once Ken reasoned with him. The adrenaline seeped out of him, cooling off and extinguishing the heat and lit fires coursing through his body. He suddenly felt drained since his fuel had nearly burned out entirely, leaving him slightly unsteady once Stretch retracted her tentacles and left him to his own devices. He shook his head, blinking hard as he finally began to return to himself again.

“I…I’m sorry, Ken.” Buzz murmured. “You’re right.”

“Then get over there!” The Mattel toy acted exasperated. “Quick! Babs is over there!”

“R-right, got it.”

The ranger set his sights on the box ahead of him and trotted forward despite his wooziness. Many toys surrounded the area, but Buzz barely noticed any of them. When he caught sight of cowhide chaps and muddled red hair, nothing else filled his sight. Barbie awkwardly knelt beside Jessie, stroking her cheek gently as she tried to coo soft words to her, yet she seemed on the verge of sobbing tearlessly. The bindings and loosened gag had since been removed from the cowgirl, but she remained limp and rigid, almost in the same position when Buzz had found her. Her breathing remained shallow and occasionally hitched, sending tiny but distinguishable tremors along her body. She kept her eyes shut tightly, keeping her strength focused on that and that alone. She didn’t acknowledge the ranger’s presence when he made himself kneel on her other side, to observe her more closely. His throat clogged when his closer look revealed more than he could possibly assume.

“H-her arm…” He choked out.

It lied motionless beside the cowgirl, the fabric shredded at the end and hanging onto her shoulder by a thread. Barbie slowly followed his gaze, staring for a moment before redirecting her attention to an object lying not too far from the cowgirl’s feet, glinting ominously in the light. The sight nearly reinforced Buzz’s diminished anger but he swallowed hard, remembering the task at hand. Jessie needed help and quickly; he couldn’t delay any longer.

“W-we could fix her at the r-repair spa.” Barbie’s bubbly, vivacious voice had fallen to a nervous, shaky whisper. “It s-shouldn’t take too long, but-”

The bell abruptly clanged shrilly, informing that time had finally run out. The day had ended, the picnic complete. The kids would soon pour into the daycare again to grab their things and leave until next year. All of the toys froze, stunned and silently frantic. They didn’t know what to do!

“Everyone, back to your positions, quick!” Ken’s voice yelled, snapping everyone out of their uncertain stupor.

As the Sunnyside residents scattered, Buzz and Barbie continued to kneel beside Jessie, who still showed no acknowledgement toward the world around her. The Mattel doll shook slightly, completely at a loss of what to do. The ranger knew he had no time to analyze different solutions, though, and forced himself to act. Tentatively, he slipped his arms underneath the cowgirl’s body and lifted her up until she lied cradled in his hold. Barbie moved to help him, cautiously placing the deadened arm on Jessie’s stomach, making sure it would not fall. Buzz gave her the tiniest of smiles, hoping to show his gratefulness for her help and concerns.

The kids’ voices rapidly drew nearer to the door. Pressing his cowgirl close to him and tenderly tightening his grip on her, Buzz sprinted for the Butterfly Room in order to reach Bonnie’s backpack before she came back inside.

He needed to get Jessie home.

Seconded!Anon. Tryin' to find a way to respond to this chapter. It's well-written and our Buzz's reaction to what happened to her is definitely how I could see him reaction. He would lose it. I especially appreciated his Precision F Strike of calling Henry's Buzz a bastard. And Ken, Barbie, and Stretch attempting to help.

Thanks guys! I figured Buzz going beserk would suit him best in this situation. I figured he always had that potential (Demo Buzz) and would use it to defend Jessie if she were ever hurt. Basically, don't make him mad or you'll regret it.

The next parts are gonna be hard to write (the recovery is so complicated) and I hope I do it justice. Buzz will definitely get some help! Don't count out the other toys just yet. After being so horrible to Jessie, the least I could do is give her lots of support and love. :)

Thanks again!! :D
