I wrote something. I hope you like it!

***

Ursula gloated at her reflection, but the gloating stopped as memories came flooding back to her. In the mirror her she saw a beautiful young woman, not unlike the young woman she had once been. That, however, had been long ago.

Still, she couldn't forget how foolish she had been. Almost as foolish as Triton's spoiled little brat. Back then, she had even believed in Triton.

“I love you,” he had said. He had said a lot of things to her. Promised her so many things. And she had believed every single word.

Oh, she had told herself that she wasn't that naive. Over and over again. She knew this was just something men said, and she had just been playing along. Triton was quite handsome, after all. Not to mention a prince. She could do a lot worse than that.

That might have been true at first, but Triton had known all the right things to tell her, to make her feel special. Maybe even he believed them at first, and that had made him sound so much more convincing. Sad as it was, Ursula had fallen in love.

It took him a while to propose. They had still loved-- fucked many times, however. Merefolk had never been very prudish about sex outside of marriage. They were far too sensual for that. Eventually she became pregnant, and he had told her that she would be his queen. Then she had done the one thing she had told herself she would never do. She started to plan her wedding.

Not that they had been in a hurry, of course. This was something she could look forward to, and her patience had always been the thing he loved most about her. Better wait until little Attina was a little older anyway.

One day she realized she must be pregnant again, but she figured she had no reason to worry when he had promised her.

They got more daughters, and she remained patient. Then they got Arista, and Triton became less kind. Suspicious of Arista's blonde hair, he accused Ursula of cheating on him. Ursula couldn't deny that the blonde hair was strange, but she had never been with another man since falling for Triton. She had pleaded with him to believe her. It had been really pathetic, but at least it had seemed to work, and his accusations stopped for a while.

Then she gave birth to another blonde girl, and this time, Triton would not listen to a word she said. Once he deemed Andrina old enough to make it without her mother, he banished Ursula from Atlantis. Worst of all, despite all his insistence that Arista and Andrina couldn't be his daughters, he wouldn't let her take either of them with her, claiming she would be a bad mother for them.

Really? He never complained about her parenting skills before.

Well, she wouldn't show anymore weakness to him. It wasn't before she was outside the kingdom she broke down. She found a cavern to hide in, and let her tears fall freely.

Then she heard two mocking - or comforting, but that didn't make much difference at the moment - voices. She stopped crying, and looked up at the two eels that had spoken to her. They didn't seem interested in hurting her, only curious, which was good. As she got a better look at them, she felt herself growing curious as well. Both of them had one white eye, the other yellow. Which was interesting. She started to study the eels, and the eels didn't seem to mind.

She started to study the eels. Studying the them made her forget about Triton a little. At some point she even named them. Eventually she realized she could somehow see through their eyes, with the help of a little magic. And she had also taken up on studying magic. It gave her more things to think about, to help her forget Triton.

She could never forget him completely, though. Once she learned to spy with the eels, she sent them to the kingdom to see what he was up to. She almost wished she hadn't once she found out.

It hadn't even been a month, and he had already found someone new. The new woman had a beautiful mane of red hair. Hopefully their child would also be a redhead.

Ursula told herself she didn't care. If Triton had gotten over their relationship so fast, so would she. She had her magic and her eels. Nevermind that she used her eels and magic to spy on Triton as often as she could.

Her skin started turning a sickly hue, and she wondered if it was because of the magic, or all her time inside the dark cavern. She also felt empty. Starving. Her continuous eating was affecting her as well. Not that any of it mattered.

It didn't take Triton long to marry the redhead. This confused Ursula at first, but then it occured to her that he must have been planning this all along. She still didn't know why she had given birth to two blondes, but they had been the perfect excuse to banish her, and then he could be with his new woman. Ursula almost laughed at herself. She had always fancied herself a clever woman, but here Triton had been scheming behind her back.

It had been tempting to ruin the wedding, but it was time for Ursula to really think things through.

For years, Ursula watched through the eels' eyes. Triton and his wife had a daughter, and indeed, she grew up to have long red hair like her mother. The wife died because of some humans, and Ursula thought Triton had to be grateful now that he could find a new wife, but instead his heart stayed broken for years. Part of Ursula wanted to comfort him, but she knew he would only look at her with disgust if he saw her now. Once he had gotten over his grief, he had eyes for no one but his youngest daughter, and Ursula's thirst for revenge grew stronger than ever.

And then his daughter had fallen in love with a human. As soon as it happened, Ursula knew what to do.

Tired of reminiscencing, Ursula removed the enchantment from the mirror, and back was her old, unpleasant self. This made it easier to consentrate on the task at hand. And she had to get ready. It was finally her wedding day, after all.

Oh my god, this is amazing. I especially love the twist in that last line -- finally her wedding day. This is such an awesome idea to have followed, and you did it so brilliantly!
