"my boy! my son!" no wonder this guy was the god of thunder, that's exactly what his voice sounded like. he kept reminding hercules of his relationship to him as he hugged his son, pounding him on the back.
meg smiled politely -- she hoped -- at hera, trying to ignore the ringing in her ears and the fact that her boyfriend's mom was the queen of the gods. the queen of the gods. okay. she reminded herself to breathe, but the wind got knocked right out of her as zeus hugged her, too. she tried to wrap her arms around him in return, but he was too huge. sometimes she had that problem when --
no. no. she was not thinking about sex with hercules while his father, the god of gods, gods -- could gods read minds?!
with one heavy arm around her shoulder, joking about how bony it was with his big thunder-laugh, he led her...somewhere where they'd just added cumulus to the cushions, zeus was saying. she laughed. probably.
suddenly hercules took her hand. "you okay? you look kind of light-headed...oh!" his eyes went giant. "maybe it's because we're up so high. oh no, um, do you think you'll be alright?"
she looked up at him and shook her head, smiling, she knew it this time. he was unbelievable. "yeah, i'll get used to it. i've been places much worse than this."
really, though, she couldn't imagine anything better than this. what wasn't made of cloud was pure sunlight, glittering like gold. her hosts themselves sparkled too, they glowed. she remembered the glow hercules had, when for such a short time all his dreams had come true, he was golden, he was invincible.
what was she doing here?
if there was one place a girl like her did not belong, it was heaven, with cloud cushions and diamond everything, and everything sparkling, everything golden --
"i'm sorry i had sex with him."
"what was that, dear?" hera blinked in a way that made it clear she'd heard every word, she just wanted to hear it again. for blackmail purposes, probably.
"i mean," meg gestured limply to the sky and the sunlight all around her. "this is incredible. and so are you, and so is your son, and i really don't deserve to be here right now, i mean, i have a past."
"yeah," zeus said, clapping her on the shoulder, "and so have i! i've got a couple million years on you, kid."
"you don't want to know what he's been up to all these years," hera said, furrowing an eyebrow.
"oh, but i have stories." zeus winked. "and besides, how else are we going to have any grandchildren?"
"g-grandchildren?" meg turned to hercules, who had been stunned into silence by this whole thing, and had a serious blush that was growing by the second. "is that...that's what you want, father?"
"not now, necessarily," hera said.
"but we aren't getting any younger!" thundered zeus.
"you aren't getting any older, either." meg smirked, back in her element, she guessed, now that hercules was the flustered one, like usual. she squeezed his hand. "don't worry about it, junior. we've got time. for now, i could get used to this." she settled herself down on a cloud chair. wow.
"oh, i'm, um, i'm glad you're feeling better," he said, his cheeks still pink, this sweet boy that heaven had given her and that she was sure as hell not giving back.
