Tiger Lily is a princess.

She is the daughter of the chief. Many tribes send their handsomest men to be her husband, only to be turned away. She has the finest clothes and the warmest tent.

Tiger Lily is a princess, and expects to be treated like one.

So when she takes the pale-faced girl, who she deems worthy above all the men of all the tribes, to her tent, she expects her to kneel.

Or bow.

Or something.

But this girl, this bird-girl, she only frowns. And then she shakes her head. "No."

Tiger Lily does not understand. No, that is wrong - it is Wendy who does not understand, Wendy who does not see the princess before her, Wendy who does not know how to act. Tiger Lily tries to explain, in what words she knows, that Wendy is supposed to kiss her the way Tiger Lily tells her. Wendy is not supposed to say 'no.'

Wendy shakes her head again. "I think, Tiger Lily, that you get your way much too often." She pushes her down to her knees, and Tiger Lily is surprised to find that the fragile white flower is stronger than she, who has the strength of the tiger. "I think you have become quite spoiled."

Tiger Lily stands up. This is not how one treats a princess, and she is about to tell Wendy so. Wendy pushes her lips to hers and muffles her cry. Tiger Lily tries to pull away, but Wendy pulls her back and will not let go.

“Now, now, Tiger Lily,” says Wendy. “Good girls mustn’t fight their elders and betters. Otherwise,” and she folds her legs neatly under her as she pulls Tiger Lily across her lap, “they get spanked.”
