“I know a curse when I see one.” The genie says and her head lifts, “I can undo it…if you wish.”

Her mouth closes and she gives a curt nod.

Jasmine’s skin is still as soft as she remembers it beneath her fingers, tracing a line down her chest and parting the fabric as it appears beneath her nails, shimmering blue strips brushing her lips when she bends down. Jasmine sighs, smiles in her dreamlike state as her body responds and brings her slowly to consciousness.

Yellow eyes, yellow eyes, sharp nails and dark hair streaked with orange that falls over the woman’s face. She brushes a strand aside, adjusting to the darkness, reaching out to confirm that she isn’t dreaming.

“Princess.”

“Alanis...”

Jasmine tugs her down with a laugh, thinking of a princess who once pulled a daughter of the royal guard behind the fountain and insisted it was only practice. How long ago was it that the Sultan had told Jasmine she’d gone missing, that she’d felt this mouth on her hip, promising to devour her alive if given permission.

“Too long,” Jasmine hisses, rolling herself into Alanis’s tongue, “far too long.”

And Alanis lets herself hope, growls into the darkness when the princess thrusts into her again while nuzzling her temple and comes like a caged animal finally tasting freedom.

“I’m in love.” It’s the start of an apology Alanis can’t will herself to hear, stretching her body out on the bed before leaving it despite Jasmine’s protests, “I’m sorry, I am, but he promised me the world.”

“He promises the world because it’s impossible to deliver.”

“And what about you?” she snaps, bringing the blankets around her and following the other woman to the balcony, “You promised to never leave.”

“I didn’t.”

“Oh so I guess for the past decade you’ve been invisible. If you’d been here I would have known.”

Alanis raises an eyebrow, “Would you?”

Then she turns and leaps from the balcony before Jasmine can shout, rushing forward in time to see Alanis land gracefully on all fours before standing, the orange nightgown unmoving in the breeze, following the woman’s movements as she scales a tree and disappears on the other side of the palace gates.

~*~
It’s easier than explaining the truth, that she never left, that she’s always been here; guarding, watching, wishing but never once regretting the decision to stay near even when Jafar cursed her all those years ago for daring to look at the princess the same way as he.

When Aladdin returns with the genie he asks where Rajah has gotten to and Jasmine's breath catches in her throat

“I don’t know.”
