"Mother took the Chosen One," he rolled his eyes as emphasized the two words, "into the Pridelands. Something about getting to know the land before they start working on the plan or something... I don't know." Then, pausing, he scratched his shoulder and muttered, "You know, we wouldn't have to wait this long if she'd just let me do it."
It was the same complaint as always. Vitani knew she should just let it go, but... Nuka simply made it much too easy. So, unable to resist the temptation, the lioness snorted and, just as she'd expected, that caused him to suddenly bound out in front of her.
"Hey, what was that for? You don't think I could do it?" He sat up, puffing his chest out and holding his head high. It would be an impressive pose, if only he weren't so scraggly to begin with. "I can do anything Kovu can. And I can do it better, too!"
"Really?" Vitani asked, one side of her mouth lifting into a smirk. Then she shrugged and walked past him, stepping just a little too close, so that her shoulder and flank bumped against him as she passed. "I don't know, Nuka. Kovu is... well. Kovu's strong, brave, and smart. He's not all that bad to look at, either... And I know he's not afraid to just take whatever he wants."
Whatever bravado he'd previously shown faded, as Nuka's mouth fell open in shock. "You know... huh? Vitani, a-are you--"
"Then there's you," she interrupted, turning to face him again. "You're weak, sniveling, dumb as a termite... And you honestly think you can seduce someone like Kiara?"
"I-I can," he stuttered, and then he took a step towards her and repeated more forcefully, "I can!"
"Oh yeah?" Vitani quickly closed the distance between them, grinning when that resulted in Nuka shying back. "Then prove it. Show everyone that you're not afraid to take what you want... Show me that you're not afraid to take who you want."
Nuka's eyes were opened wide as he stared at her, completely frozen. Then, after swallowing audibly, he seemed to find his voice again. Or at least part of it. "I, um... u-uh..." He broke eye contact, but leaned closer to her, taking a breath before--
"Vitani!"
--before promptly having a heart attack.
Nuka jumped a couple of feet into the air at the sudden yell, and Vitani didn't bother hiding her laughter as he crashed ungracefully back to the sand.
"Kovu." Still snickering, Vitani padded out to meet the other lion, and she took great care to make sure she brushed against him as she greeted him--for Nuka's sake, of course. "Did you want me for something?"
"Yeeeaah," the word was drawn out as Kovu gave her a look, before he nodded his head towards Nuka. "What was that all about?"
Vitani simply rolled her eyes. "Nuka's Nuka. You know that. Anyway, Mother took you into the Pridelands today, didn't she? What did you find out?" It wasn't as though she really cared, but she knew that Nuka was still watching them. As long as that remained true, she could put up with listening to things she already knew.
As he watched them walk off together, Nuka picked himself off the ground, sulking and muttering, "Why is it always him?"
