Ding dong!

Saturday started out as a pretty lazy day. We slept in and then moved to the living room to lounge on the couch in front of the TV. While all snugly and comfy, the doorbell rang and we looked at each other quizzically. The doorbell is an odd sound when it's rung unexpectedly, and neither of us were expecting company. "You're more dressed than I am", I told him. So with a sigh he got up, snuck to the front door and tried to peek out through the blinds. That apparently failed, so he went upstairs to check for a car in our driveway. I'm not sure what he discovered, but he came back downstairs and reluctantly opened the door. A cheerful voice greeted him and stated that he'd no doubt heard of a thing called Armageddon. I just about fell off the couch trying to maintain my composure. The cheerful voice was cut off with a curt, "I'm not interested", and the door closed just slowly enough to not be considered rude. I closed my eyes hoping to head off the outburst as he returned to the living room. Alas, the happy stranger has struck a nerve in my beloved, and I had to listen to a (admittedly more subdued than usual) rant about what's wrong with the world and why we'll never get anywhere. That was the end of afternoon snuggling for us, although I was not deterred from my plans of napping.

Lesson: Although I always feel like a paranoid recluse doing so, answering the door with no clue as to who is on the other side always tends to be a mistake.
