No more secret garden

So our apartment building was covered in ivy.  The ivy even crossed the entrance to the courtyard so  well that we all thought there was an arch or some sort of structure under it.  Lots of ivy.  You couldn't tell where the windows were.

The new owners cut it all away.  They also cut down the lilac bushes, regular bushes, trees in the courtyard and trees by the sidewalk.  No greenery.

We moved out last night.  Officially.  It's an empty, clean apartment and our stuff is scattered to the wind.  Which is good.  We needed the purge, but I will miss that place.  No more hardwood floors, no more french doors, nor more library, no more HUGE closets and no more tiny weird kitchen.  And no more opening the windows to listen to the concerts in the park across the street.  Or waking up to hear the lions in the morning.

Sad.

But good.  We're moving to Alaska!  That really is very exciting.  Nanook is pretty excited as well.  She's a big fan of Alaska, of moving, the road trip, and any time that I quietly sit to think about it all.  That's when she jumps and kicks and rolls very excitedly.

I'm going to make matching bedspreads for her crib and our bed.  We're all sleeping in the same room anyway so I'm thinking it would be ridiculously cute.  And fun.

I can't wait for Alaska.
