Yogyakarta, Java - Republic of Indonesia Day Two (Merapi Sojourn)

Gunung Merapi (Fire Mountain)
Kaliurang It was such a cloudy day (bad sunrise at Borobudur as well) and you couldn't make out the peak of Merapi most of the time. And I climbed all the way up (1km hike) this stupid hill for this view...
Nothing to see here.
Yups. All for nothing! Grrr.. I honestly thought it would be a simple enough hike. I even saw a family (auntie, wife with baby etc) coming down. How bad could it be?
I thought going up was bad.. coming down was even worse. The eruption had really did a number on the trail. There was one point where it was literally a 50 degree slope. They had a a rudimentary rope system in place. ROPE! Macam SOC! WTH!?
But whatever. So it was onward to Merapi itself.
My guide! I didn't have time for the Jeep tour (though I really really wanted too) so it was just a quick one on a cheapo bike. Not very safe, but heck..it was one of the most fun parts of the trip! Zoom zoom!
The 'highlight' was to see Kinahrejo village which was completed destroyed in the 2010 eruption. Nothing much to see, since, well, it was all destroyed? Oh I don't know. Apart from the bike ride, it was really a waste of time.
