Today in Music (March 3) - Deaths

Mar 03, 2012 09:10

I didn't want to do 'Deaths' since I thought remembering Birth anniversaries are a better way to celebrate.. but this one was too good not to blog about.

In 1702, Johann Christoph Pachelbel passed. Although he has written a substantial body of work, he is best known for his 'Canon and Gigue in D' (although the Gigue is usually forgotten).

The Canon is also famous for having the the most boring bass part in Music History...well depending on your point of view).

Whatever your view on the music, it's one of those pieces a lot of musicians love to hate due to its overplayed status...but you got to admit - almost everyone goddamn person has listened to it and probably liked it!  I mean come on, we've got a million remixes...  techno versions like this...
