What a day.
A great many things had been on my mind lately. About work, relationships, home, future (ain't it always?). I was very preoccupied with the monumental task I have with my current band. I.e. getting them over to my side, listening etc. Slowly but surely but I am an impatient man.
Midway through teaching the recruits, we all heard this soft gushing noise. It sounded like someone had turned on a water pipe. FYI, the band practices in a bomb shelter - air tight and what not. I continued teaching.
A few minutes later, I thought something must be wrong and lo and behold, water started leaking out of the Library. I rushed to inspect and opened the library door.
FWWWOOOOSH! Water started gushing out of the library and I saw paper and scores bobbing up and down. It was a gut wrenching sight. I instinctively wanted to take out my phone to take pictures but I was in panic mode. The water had already reached the double basses and I yelled at the recruits to remove them and to call for help.
There was no way to to turn off the pipe - it was unreachable (ridiculous if you ask me). Water kept gushing. I took off my shoes, rolled up my pants and went to open the other chambers, hoping the water would flow outside. It alleviated the rising waters somewhat, but the water just kept coming. Worse, the drainage was choked.
The students were fast - immediately carrying all the library scores out. The water took a good 15 mins before it was finally turned off (mostly because the water tank had poured out all its contents).
We spent the next couple of hours moving instruments and equipment up to level ground...urgh.
