Was asked by
kinkythepanda to help out with the music for his computer game project. The overall theme was a futuristic, scif-fi hotel.
There were two original musical ideas:
1. A Moonlight sonata-esque piano movement, albeit more grim and perhaps moving towards the psychotic. This was aborted in favour of number 2. Perhaps I should finish this composition.
2. I wasn't happy with the raw musical material of Number 2. Sibelius sounds are just so gross. However, the team was happy with this and it veered towards an ambient soundscape. Although finally aborted, I used the musical ideas for the resulting composition/sequence. All are intended to be looped.
A. Hotel - Title Screen.
This was relatively simple. Anchored by a tanpura/tambura drone (Sa only), the soundscape consists of synth and lunar strings playing simple chords and suspensions, with high and low notes gently punctuating the texture.

The sequence begins with a very brief piano extract from 'The Kite Runner" which is looped. Synth and lunar strings dominate the texture here. Bass ostinato. I recorded some notes on my horn too, but the sound is heavily manipulated. I tried numerous instruments before settling on those that sounded 'digital' and suitable for a space faring civilisation. I kept thinking of those futuristic noises (that would be musical too) that I heard on Star Trek etc. Anchored by four chords but largely polytonal with Baroque inspired ending.

A particular section of the hotel had a prominent tree, which I assumed gave the hotel life/energy. Visitors walked over glass panels which is revealed to be a huge aquarium.
More scifi strings and textures (also filtered voices). I aimed for sounds that sounded more.. 'fluid' and 'ecological' here. Tanpura drone is back (but now Sa and Pa - important significance). Steady beat for the swaying of the tree. An 'organic' sound was requested and I added an alaap played by Sarangi to aid in this soundscape.
Although rooted around the C Major Chord, most of the other musical material are in different (often related) keys.
