On coming to Howard...
I just woke up and my roommate has gone to take a shower. Now is the nicest time to get some writing done. It was hot as hell and humid every single day during August, but as soon as September 1st hit at midnight the weather immediatey changed for the better. Now the days are clear and brilliant like they are at home, and when night comes it becomes significantly cooler...like at home. Our dorm is still hot though, it's an old building and it doesn't ventilate itself very well. We have to keep the fans on at all times. At times I get really homesick. DC is a cool city, but I noticed that there isn't that much graffiti or murals around. This makes me nervous because Howard is in the "ghetto" of DC, and unlike the "ghettos" of home there isn't any art to soften the touch. East coast ghettos are scary, I hate walking alone at night around here.
Anyway, Howard is cool though. I love the people here. It's a wonderful place to experience culture and have the black college experience. I've been introduced to many new and different things, the fraternities and sororities being the most interesting. Like I've said before, I have no interest in joining a sorority; however, we got the chance to watch the AKAs and the other fraternities step a couple days ago. I have to say that it was pretty awesome to see them. Though I may have some isssues with the administration of Howard and my advisor who is NEVER in his office. I like it here. I just wish I could take more advanced classes. I might not be here next year, still, I know that Howard will hold a very special place in my heart. Just to even pass through here is an honor to me.
Also, since it was intended that I pass through here. At the end of this month, I'll make the decision to be here next year or not. I'm not sure if I will be, and I will miss the new friends I made, but getting my degree and my education is the most important. Just to make sure I won't forget, I'll write them down.
