For a couple of months, I've been thinking of learning more about world history. Made a few attempts to find some interesting books or study plans, didn't succeed and left this idea for a "better time".
However, a week ago I stumbled upon one mentioning of a history course on Coursera and decided to check it out. Taught by the professor of University of Virginia, Philip Zelikow, and organized in a form of conversations series.
https://www.coursera.org/learn/modern-world/home/welcome He is not simply talking about dates and events that happened in the past, he digs deeper, trying to unfold for viewers why things happen in the past and what a power a single human choice can have. He shows explicitly, that history is not just a thing that happened because it was supposed to happen like a volcano, on the merging line of two tectonic plates. He shows that history is the combination of people's decision and circumstances, not situation around alone.
Such a great professor with an outstandingly humble approach.
Everybody who speaks English and interested in the modern history will find something really cool there.
enjoy:)
