Every two minutes, somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted.
One out of every six American women have been the victims of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime (14.8% completed rape;2.8% attempted rape). A total of 17.7 million women have been victims of these crimes.
Age 12-34 are the highest risk years. Risk peaks in the late teens: girls 16 to 19 are four times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault.
61% of rapes/sexual assaults are not reported to the police. Those rapists, of course, never serve a day in prison.
Between 1996 and 1997 the number of women reporting rape increased by over 500%. Yet convictions have remained almost static, meaning that whilst in 1977 1 in 3 women reporting rape saw their rapists convicted, in 1996 less than 1 in 10 did. The criminal justice system is currently failing women, not just those who report rape, but every woman, since the message being sent out is that rape is a low risk, high reward activity.
1 in 4 women suffer rape or attempted rape
-The most common rapists are current and ex-husbands or partners
-1 in 7 married women said they had been forced to have sex compared to 1 in 3 divorced or separated women
-91% of women told no one
80% of rapists dont admit to having raped a women they say the women that they "wanted it".

This makes me nothing but sick and sadened by the world. I am in tears. I am hurt, that in this world it is almost okay to violate and damage a women for the rest of her life. It is okay to hurt her beyond any kind of possible repair. My heart goes out to all of you, to all who have been hurt in any way. I know what it is like and it really hurts me to think of my experience (as mild as it may be) and think that ever six women I meet on the street have had something much worse happen. It hurts to know that so many men out there can hurt something as pure and beautiful as the women out there that I know have been sexually abused in anyway. Tab, to you, we had the same thing happen and I will never be the same and I know you never will be either. I can think of all too many girls (young girls) who know the hurt that is felt at the hands of terrible men. I am sorry, girls. I am sorry.
