Today I aspirated a joint effusion for the very first time. The patient in question, though, was a retired consultant orthopaedic surgeon who, as I gingerly stuck a great big needle into his exquisitely tender, massively swollen knee, wearily sighed, "I must have aspirated over a thousand knee effusions in my time..."

Thanks, pal. Just my luck.

Still, I got about 60ml of fluid out of that knee, so he can't complain. I hope.

I may write a proper update one of these days. It's been a while.
