Hello. I haven't updated in a while. This is mostly because medicine has taken over my life completely, rendering me devoid of a social life, hobbies or hours spent awake that are not spent working.

Well, that's perhaps a slight exaggeration, but that is essentially what it feels like some days. I have actually been doing a few fun, non-medically related things too. I went to Little League in Glasgow, which was great. Stuart Murdoch came and sat at our table along with the hott one out of Zoey Van Goey, before my complete and utter star-struckness scared them away to the other side of the room. Much dancing happened and I had an ace time. I also went to the indiesoc flatwarming party, which was very nice, to see The Fall who were excellent as usual, to Ben's birthday party, which was quiet but good fun and to Adam's John Peel memorial sweet-eating party, which was lovely, but because I only got there at about 11pm after a late shift at work, I was a little too zonked out to fully appreciate it.

Then this week it was my birthday and I had some time off work to celebrate it in. Adam and Keri cooked me lunch and then took me charity-shopping and to feed the ducks in Inverleith Park, where we ended up getting mugged by a large number of scarily tall and fearless swans. Then in the evening a bunch of us went out to Monster Mash to eat large quantities of yummy stodgy food and then to Doctors for drinks afterwards. It was all most lovely and I got lots of awesome presents and then a few of us came back to the flat where Keri and Katya had baked me an amazing pink peppermint and chocolate birthday cake that I couldn't blow out the candles on. It has icing made out of crushed peppermint candies and it is unbelievably scrummy and gooey and crunchy and good and I have just been eating some for breakfast. Mmmmm.

Medicine-wise I have finished my cardiology job and started a general medicine one. It is ok, but I miss all the lovely people I was working with in cardio. Also, I just worked 11 days in a row where at least one of our patients died everyday, which was just very emotionally draining and exhausting and difficult to deal with. Especially because the family of one patient is sueing our team, which is a bit scary, since I was the last doctor to see the patient during the day before the night she arrested. I don't think I've done anything wrong or neglectful though and it's my seniors who are getting sued rather than myself, so hopefully that will all be ok. Eep. The job is not too bad really and I've been enjoying looking after lots of sweet little old people, despite the fact that so many of them have been snuffing it in a highly upsetting fashion. It actually been good for me to gain experience of looking after people in their last illness and it's been rewarding to deal with the families of some of these very frail, very unwell elderly people who have passed away and to get thanked and told I've done a good job, when I'd have just been feeling horrible about the whole thing otherwise.

Hmm. I'm on lates over the weekend and then nights until Wednesday but then I am going to have a few days off, including my first weekend off in a month. I am so excited! I just hope the next few days are all ok and I get to treat some people who are't terminally ill for a change...

Right. Better go and get ready for work.
