Michael Phelps, and other Olympic thoughts

I am so sick of hearing about him in the Olympics. It's as if he is the only athlete playing- it's getting boring. I don't want to hear about his mother (however kind she may be), I don't care how much he eats, or the fact that he has a crazy schedule. I don't feel sorry for any of the athletes' training or competing schedules, especially the winners- I doubt that any of the athletes regret them, at least not at the level they are competing- if they did, then they would not be at this level, they would have quit first.

So would NBC shut up about Phelps' life? Show his races, and his expression when he wins- I love seeing his joy, he gives off the impression of being a nice kid. And then, switch to some other competition, because there has to be 20 sports they are not showing to tell us all about his diet. Oh, and quit it with the idea that he has to break a world record every time he finishes a race- it feels a bit gratuitous, and takes away from the feat when he does do it.

I was a bit tired of hearing about Misty May-Treanor's wedding ring. Why doesn't she just put it on a chain or take it off to play? Ugghhh, now they have me doing it.

I really liked the good sportsmanship that the US beach volleyball team shows in refusing to badmouth any other team. It's refreshing.

My favorite winning expression today (so far) was that on Federica Pellegrini when she won gold- she started crying, and it seemed great.

Yesterday I adored Johnathan Horton- so enthusiastic, and he was so thrilled about winning bronze, which is nice in a competition where only gold seems to be valued.

And isn't the McDonald's commercial nasty? As if all the Olympians go for that garbage to eat when they are to eat. So deceptive and icky.

eta: Poor Alicia Sacramone- you just know she wanted to find a corner to cry in and the cameras kept following her, and it was kind of Nastia Liukin to go hug her, since I had a feeling she was the only one who did. And the tears that came to her eyes in that moment was heartbreaking.
