Feathering His Bed

I've mentioned in the past that we're obviously on Hillary's mailing list and the number of people reaching out their hands has only grown exponentially, since the time of that post. Generally, no more than a couple days go by, before we get another handful of thinly-disguised fundraising letters from prominent Democrats and this is in addition to all of the pro-environment, save-the-world missives that are signed by Hollywood stars or Robert Kennedy Jr. We've also gotten a couple of mailings from some group, the politics of which I'm not sure, but the letter is signed by John McCain. Though that's beside the point.

This morning's Albuquerque Journal reports that Bill Richardson has raised $3.8 million over the past year for his re-election bid. This means that he has gathered nearly $7 million for the gubernatorial race and has $5.5 million remaining. Among the high-profile contributors are the usual suspects, plus Don Henley, Norman Lear and Ameriquest gave him ten tickets to a Rolling Stones concert along with $13,000 in travel accommodations. A Palm Springs golf tournament also rates mention as a high-profile event.

His Republican challenger, J.R. Damron has reportedly raised $303,000, with $190,000 of this coming as a loan from himself. Supposedly, Mr Richardson is expecting the national Republican Party to someday pump money into his opponent's war chest, but what I find interesting and could speak volumes about his intent; Out of all the mail I've received from Democrats of every stripe, I can't recall ever getting anything from the Richardson campaign and I live near the geographic center of the state.
