i visited the maltz jewish museum in beachwood today and met with one of my numerous thesis advisors, mark. i won't go into details, but i'll sum it up with, "jews had it mega-hard" (and if you didn't already know that, you're beyond my comprehension of how idiotic someone can be). it reminds me of the artwork by joseph beuys, his work a visualization of his memory of his days with hitler youth, piloting for nazi germany and his experiences of surviving under layers of fat and felt to keep warm after being shot down from the sky.

mark loves punk rock music. what a cool daddy-o.

major criticisms of the museum

pros
+ each "area" of the museum has a specific theme that is
significantly different from all other rooms
(+10 for cognitive development)

+ smaller rooms focus attention
(+10 for cognitive development)

+ significant use of sound for environmental stimulation
(+10 for cognitive development)

+ plasma screen use minimal, selective, and appropriately
located (+10 for cognitive development)

+ "sensitive" topic rooms set off the main aisle with warning
signs for children and sensitive people
(+10 for cognitive development)

cons
+ very confusing to navigate, people are easily lost
(-10 for cognitive development)

+ little interaction with displays
(-10 for cognitive development)

+ seated "movie" areas occasionally block main aisle route,
forcing visitors to walk in front of the screen to go to next room
(-10 for cognitive development)

overall, the maltz jewish museum gets a +20 cognitive development rating, woo!
