Went to the doctor about some recent chest attacks (terrible wheezing, tightness, hacking) I've suffered after normal exercise. She thinks it's allergies. I have an inhaler now and my first appointment for allergy testing tomorrow

While I fully support and applaud your efforts towards improving your health, in as non judgemental way as possible, should you someday find the path you are following not satisfying, I guess I would just like to suggest that there are other paths than scratch tests and chronic medication.

Bummer about the apt-- but you are better off not having a questionable landlord. Those places that people rennovate crappily? They are pretty much never for the people doing/directing the work-- they will try harder with stuff they have to live with themselves, tho there is still plenty of opportunity for bad (ie in line with a short lived trend, or a poor combination of otherwise nice elements) taste.

FWIW, if you get yourself a rent controlled apartment, you can do pretty much whatever you want to it inside without fear of being kicked out (as long as you pay your rent, anyway). Paint it. Put in new cabinets, appliances, floors, redo the whole thing, really!!! I assume CA still has rent control, right? I know there was something on the ballot...
