Me!

I'm supposed to be interviewed for a story about vegetarianism for the Atlanta paper, but the reporter keeps standing me up. We had rescheduled the interview for one o'clock this afternoon, so at 12:59 I ran down from my office to my car and waited patiently for my cell phone to ring. By 1:15 I was bored and hungry. I called the reporter's direct line and got her voice mail. Bah. Not wanting to go back upstairs and eat the leftover half of burrito I'd brought home from a restaurant on Friday night that had been suspiciously darkened and locked when Adam's dad and stepmom (our houseguests this weekend) drove past it on Saturday night, I headed out of the parking garage and went to Jason's Deli for a very satisfying spinach wrap. Then I got stuck in a downpour and had three people cut me off on the way out of the parking lot. On the way out, I saw the Cowboy Mouth tour bus parked beside a very unspectacular Hampton Inn.

When I got back to work, I found two notes from the reporter in my in-box. In one, she proposed for us to do the interview over e-mail (hurrah! I am much more articulate when I write about vegetarianism than when I speak about it), and in another, I got invited to pose with produce:

Good afternoon! I need 4 volunteers for a photograph to accompany the vegetarian story. I can only accommodate the first four responses, so please reply soon if you wish to participate.

You would have your photo taken at the AJC studio (72 Marietta St. NW, 7th floor) with a piece of your favorite produce. (Really!) The photo has to be taken during the work week-- I'm just throwing dates around here, but would Friday, 6/16, or Monday, 6/19, at 3 p.m., work? If you are interested but can't make those dates/times, please tell me your best availability.

-You should bring TWO pieces of produce that you love, to be on the safe side. (For instance, an eggplant and a bunch of spinach, so that we don't end up with four eggplant photos.)

I don't think I'll do it. For one thing, I have too many deadlines coming up to be able to leave work during the day for more than a short lunch break. For another, I need to build up to things like having a picture of me (well, me + spinach) spewed out in ink and tossed onto driveways and doorsteps across this fair city. Last week, I had a letter to the editor published. Next week, I'll be quoted in the vegetarian article. Maybe sometime after that, I'll feel ready to stare into an inky picture of myself. Provided I ever get contacted to be interviewed for an article again, that is.
