what the hell? to all my local friends: beware of a fucked up scam that's happened to my mum last night. and it might happen to you.
you'll get a call saying you have a collect call from someone in a correctional facility. DO NOT TAKE THE CALL, DUMMY! my mum took the call fearing somehting happened to either me or cory. the puerto rican voice on the other end said that he was calling from the jail to inform her that a family member was injured in a auto accident and was at a hospital. this family memeber is seriously injured and can't speak, but gave this number so you could contact their doctor. they said they didn't have the name, but "he's" hurt and to call, "dr. bennet" for the details. they gave her a number which started with *(star) 72. this gives them the ability to make calls on your number. long distance fucking calls.
my mum called cory freaking out. so cory called me at borders last night at 11pm telling me to call my mum. so i called our house number. a black lady answered. i thought perhaps i dialed wrong. i said i had the wrong number and hung up nd tried again. i punched in the nmbers carefully. watching them show up on the little screen. 5**-***3. again, the black woman answered. "who are you trying to call?" i repeated the number i just dialed. the number that's been my home number for over 11 years. a number i'm calling from within the 727 area code. "you've got the wrong number, i'm in miami. you've called miami." i hung up the phone feeling a bit weak. so i called my mum on her cell number. i told her what happened. "oh my god. someone's stolen my phone number." so we quickly hung up, i was glad she knew i was safe as was she. i wanted so badly to call that number back to cuss her out. yell at her. vent my frustrations. what happenes when you call this number? my home number? the number you call from gets recorded on their caller id, so they will scam whoever calls that number. so they probably have my work's number now and cory's number/my home number.
my mum called the phone company and they blocked all collect calls and made it so that only she could use her phone number. they said an old woman had it happen to her for weeks and couldn't understand all the starnge charges. of course she didn't have to pay for it. it only costs $1 a month to block collect calls. but shit if it's not worth it. what's strange is the other week, i had recived a collect call from a correctional facility. it freaked me out. there's a recording telling you where the call's from and press this number so that the call will stop. i hung up the first time and it called back almost instantly. so there was an option on the automated recording to make it stop. i pushed it. and it did stop. but last night cory said he got one and accepted it. but he said it was a soliciter. like people in jail collect call you to solicit you? i think not. so hopefully we didn't get scammed too, and i will make sure cory doesn't do that again. JUST BE CAREFUL MY SWEETIES!
