Everyone, go look at
Women Fighters in Reasonable Armor. It's incredibly happy-making, and makes me want to draw lots of kick-ass girls.
I've recently been doing a bit of art again, which is fun, but at the same time I'm sort of hesitant about it, because I'll do something that's really really good for me, but is kind of crap by general standards and I don't know whether to brag or be embarrassed. I used to draw all the time, but I've never taken any kind of art class because I realized early on that classes often ruin things I enjoy for me.
Then I ruined it for myself anyway, by not improving as much as people who were taking art classes and deciding I sucked at art and didn't want to do something I sucked at. So, you know, damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think I'm actually naturally pretty good at art? But the only guidance I've had has been random tips and tricks I've picked up from odd places, and I don't hone by practicing all the time either.
The other thing I want to draw right now is everyone from Diana Wynne Jones' Chrestomanci series. I lack a precise recollection of how I got catapulted back into this series (and miniscule fandom) but it happened about last Wednesday, and since then I've looked at what I think is every piece of fic, meta, or fanart on the web (not that there's oh so much). These books are nearly as delicious as they were when I was little, except that I can't seem to get a hold on Cat's characterization. Clearly analysis is required. I'll probably give a head-canon dump pretty soon (nothing that could be called proper meta.)
