Go see a holocaust denier in action. There is much more along those lines in that LJ thread. He patiently convinces a relatively well informed (but not very intelligent) person with his anti-Semitic anti-Zionist propaganda.
Reading this is like seeing some very ill very dangerous beast through a glass tank. You can get very close to it and observe its behavior and logic. At first, you are so horrified you cannot even read what it writes. Then, slowly, you overcome your disgust and read what it has to say.
Its claims are easily rebuked through cursory cross-checking using widely available web resources. After reading this, please go wash yourself of that crap by attentively reading the Wikipedia entry about holocaust denial. The thread incidentally started with an anti-feminist saying that feminists try to make him feel guilty for their "past" oppression.
He does not realize that the point of speaking about the holocaust, slavery or misogyny is not to make people feel guilty about it. The goal is to get people to think about the origins of racism, anti-Semitism or sexism and realize their root cause is in the functioning of our societies. You can’t ignore history and consider that since you were not born at that time, slavery, the holocaust or the oppression of women are not your business. The truth is that those did not come out of nowhere, and they can and still do re-emerge regularly because we do not understand yet why they emerged in the past.
This is why we have a responsibility for the past. Holocaust deniers erase the past so as to allow it to happen again and again in the future. Don’t let the past be erased by those criminals. Forgetting means death.
