full-sized girl from the portrait on my wall
did you stumble through the air, or did you walk gently and tall?
i think that the air held you balanced for a time
unless your image, for a moment, stay frozen in my eyes
when at last you hit the floot, you held your arms out wide
extended your palm and fingers out, so your hands could touch mine
then the wind, it came through my window, took us both by surprise
we were glad it didn't swift you away right before my eyes
so we danced and swam and played guitar, and drank throghout the night
when i awoke with you by my side, you were breathing in the light
so i rose and cast a shadow on your sweet and worthy face
and stared out through my window to some sad and distant place
then i couldn't see your face, when you were standing in the light
your breath, it rose above mountain tops, and into the sky line
your voice was that of hemmingway, and your touch was that of christ
we laid in summer sheets, talked of your life before last night
you told me what you saw between those frames of gold and white
you said you watched me when i sleep, and dressed to go to school
then i kissed you on your mouth real hard, and touched your shirt of wool
so we pulled the sheets over our heads, and found an unborn light
my soul was crowned the king of ghosts, and yours the queen of all that's good and right
we swore to keep our secrets safe, and our bodies true and tame
and to never forget that portrait from which you emerged out from its frames
