.screencaps: In celebration of figuring how to get VLC's auto-cap function to work, I present you with about 700 hi-res screenshots from SGA 4.10 "This Mortal Coil

There is actually a well-done tutorial out there (with screenshots and everything!), but I cannot find the link asl;lkjdf. So until then, here is a very stripped-down version :D
1.) Go to Settings > Preferences 2.) In the vertical menu on the left-hand side: -expand Video -select Output modules (should be the second option down) -check the box for Advanced Options (lower corner) 3.) This should bring up something like 'Video output module' with a dropdown menu next to it. Select Image Video Output. 4.) Back in the vertical menu: -expand Output modules -select Image File 5.) You're now presented with a set of options to choose file format, recording ratio, and filename prefix. -check .png or .jpg or whatever file format you want -I set the recording ratio at 15. That's about 1,000 caps per 40-minute episode. -the filename prefix you want, e.g. 410- is the prefix I used for this episode. Be sure to keep the hyphen in!!! 6.) Click SAVE.
And you're done!!
Things to watch for: 1.) The screencaps will not show up in the directory where

I figured out why it wouldn't work with my DVD! For some reason, mine takes the screencaps in the folder the file is in, no clue why, so it can't save files onto the DVD itself. XD
When do you get the error message? I typically get it at the end of a capping session, or somewhere in the middle, but fortunately all my caps are there.
Sadly, the problem might be with the program itself; I really am not an expert :) You might want to check VLC LAN's official site, or search for troubleshooting pages. Sorry I can't be of more help!
I get it 10 seconds in. I just removed VLC it's more trouble than it's worth. LOL. I have to unistall it in between every capping session and reinstall.
Also, I've got to add more things to it---I just realized that some DVDs are REALLY stupid and just opening the video does not guarantee screencaps---I had to go to Windows Media Player and play the video to figure out that Prince Caspian doesn't really start until Title 58. And I spent over an HOUR trying to figure out where it capped, only to fail ever time, trying title 0 and 1 and variations of that with different chapters and so forth. x_x
I need to add that to my tutorial, that opening the video in Windows Media Player will guarantee you where the video actually is first before you waste time in VLC--that'll probably help a bunch of people; I know it helped me. xD
Hurray, THANK YOU!! It was one of those things were I had to hunt around google for a while, found the link, and then for some reason or other lost it later on. What is lost has been found :D
maybe you could teach me how to get VLC's autocapping to work, LOL? I can't figure it out!

VLC media player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Then it closes. It plays videos just fine but when I'm trying to cap it closes.

I figured it might be that tutorial, since a lot of people tell me it's one of the few on the web--and one that is so comprehensive and whatnot. xD
