[that big lovely bonfire at 1446 is not looking so lovely today. in fact, half of it has been diminished to a smouldering damp mess due to the sudden rain. ...the sudden rain that has decided to follow one (1) merry hippie around like a rabid, mentally imbalanced dog ( Read more... )

[ Aang's eyes seem to light up at that. The tale of the Avatar and it's creation was a popular one in the Four Nations, being the story of the world's people. But there was no to tell it to other than children because, well..it was the story of their world's people. Everyone knew it.

Excitedly, he launched into a TL;DR story of the origin of the Avatar. How the people of the Four Nations had originally lived as one, without any bending. But the people had begun to learn it, after hundreds of years. The Waterbenders by observing the movement of the moon and it pushed and pulled the tides. The Earthbenders by studying the badger moles, who used earthbending to guide themselves despite their blindness. The Fire Nations who had learned from the dragon to control the energy within themselves and turn it to fire. And the Air Nomads, who had become the companions of the Sky Bison, learning airbending and even copying the arrow on the bodies of the bison to show mastery of the element. But when the people learned the abilities, they wanted to use them against each other, to start wars for land.

Eventually, the Spirits had separated the land, and the Four Nations had been formed. Air Temples, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Water Tribes. But even that hadn't worked. The people still fought. With the world separated into four elements, balance was delicate. If one element had too much power, it would harm the world itself. They needed something to maintain the balance between the elements, as well as the nations.

And so the avatar had been created. The spirit of the planet given the form of a human, and mastery over all four bending disciplines. It was the Avatar's task, the spirits decided, to keep balance among the four nations of the world. Should a war start up, the Avatar would rise to stop it, and keep peace, as well as serve as the only bridge between the Spirit World and the world of humans.

Aang hesitated when he began to speak about the current war, and his story lost a good bit of cheer. How could he explain why the world had been without saying that he'd abandoned his own people? Because, intentional or not, that's what he'd done, no matter what Katara insisted. So, instead, he skimmed over the start of the war. The Fire Lord at the time had launched an attack 12 years after the death of the previous Avatar; Roku. The attack had been against the Air Nomads, all of the temples at once, because they didn't know which temple Aang himself had been at.

And usually, he explained, the Avatar's weren't informed of who they were until they turned 16. But because the Air Nomads had sensed a war might be stirring, he'd been told four years early. But at the time of the attack, he said quickly, he'd been away from the temples. There had been an accident, and he'd been pretty much put to sleep for a hundred years. He'd been awoken by Katara, only to find out the the attack against the Airbenders had succeeded, and one hundred years later, the Fire Nation was winning the war. ]

And Azula is the daughter of the current Fire Lord, whose trying to continue the war. But I don't think they understand what damage their doing...the world really is crumbling because of it..

[ A blink and silence. ]

...that was kind of depressing. Sorry. [ BRB JUMPING TO FEET AND GESTURING WILDLY. ]

But when I get my airbending back, I can show you my marble trick! It's really awesome. [ It was. Really. Even if noone was impressed by it. ;o; ]

[WOAH MAN that is a very large amount of information to take in. and poor aang, bothering to tip-toe around the bits of the story he didn't like when hao could read most of the sentiment with his nifty reishi. not that he was going to mention it, of course. how rude would that be.

he listens in complete silence to the rest of the tale, only giving a nod here or there to indicate he was keeping up with it, and alternating between smiles and sympathetic looks at the appropriate times. when he was all done with his spazzy speech, hao rises with a smile.]

My, what a story that is. Your world and your role in it both sound fascinating. [making sure to keep the umbrella tilted so the rain fell behind him, he reaches out to pat aang on his bald little head] And I'd be happy to see your marble trick, of course.
