I shall probably bore even the scant readers that I do have by endless posting of the house, but hey, it's a big deal in my life and will remain so over the next few years, so it seems as well to document it here for myself if for no-one else. With of course the advantage of being able to point people here if they are foolish enough to ask :D. Anyhow, during the time that I was mooching round the house, making sure that the cupboards were being restored, I took some preliminary photos of the house, without us having touched it at all.
Sadly, I didn't have much juice in the batteries, so to start with, I'll just post the floor plan
and then give you pictures of the lower ground floor.
The small area marked up as "Study" is an odd space, it's obviously been used as a bathroom in the past, but despite bath and toilet having been removed, the tiling is all still in place. However, there's a telephone point and a couple of power points in there now. It gets no natural light at all and there's no heat source in there either. We haven't quite decided what we're going to do with this space yet, we need to explore some options and work out what's actually viable - study isn't on the short list right now.
And the main part of the lower ground floor is a lovely open plan space, with a fireplace and open area at one end and the kitchen in the other end, with a large open archway delineating the join between. In the wall between the "study" and the reception area are some colourful glass bricks, in tones of blues and greens. Although I'm not normally a fan of glass bricks, the fact that they're inset into a main wall in a random shape seems to make them really work and I like them. There are plenty of lights in fittings that work well for us too, although right now, we're possibly looking at spending a fortune now on energy saving bulbs to save us a fortune in the longer term! I think that the sofas coming out of my house, my dining table and dining chairs will end up in this reception area.
The kitchen has a good number of cupboards and units and the corner wall cupboards are amazingly capacious! The floor mounted boiler isn't the nicest thing I've ever seen, but the fireplace that it sits in has a very useful mantelshelf, which I suspect will be filled with my glass storage jars. The cupboard tucked between fireplace and archway contains hot water cylinder and airing shelves. There's a dishwasher, a double electric oven and gas hob and a bowl and half stainless steel sink. I have a couple of cafe stools which will work well with the breakfast bar and there's pretty good counterspace for my various kitchen gadgets.
And finally, a picture of the hallway and stairs up to the ground floor. There is a HUGE cupboard under the stairs - the sort that it'd be easy to make into the bedroom for a young wizard relative that you're ashamed of. At the end of the hallway, is a door which was originally to steps up to the garden. But a single storey extension has been added at the top of the steps and it's functioning as a utility room, with plumbing for washing machine and electrical points, as well as an electrically heated towel rail. I didn't take any photo of the utility room and I'm not sure whether I'll manage to get it framed anyhow in future. We'll see. Without any further ado, the hallway.
And I'll conclude there. More to come shortly!
