Jongin is not one for romance, but he really wants Kyungsoo to notice him

you're like a very far shooting star

Jongin is not a romantic person. In fact Jongin would call himself the antithesis of the very notion of romance. He's used to getting what he wants in a... slightly different way, one that consists of a tilt of his eyelashes and lingering hands on arms. And Jongin always gets what he wants.

So it is a big and rude surprise to him when the one person he wants to draw the attention of, one Do Kyungsoo, doesn't seem to react to his advances the way others do. When he cocks his head towards Kyungsoo, eyes lidded, Kyungsoo doesn't become flustered or shy. Instead, Kyungsoo asks him if he is okay and if he was tired. Jongin had just shook his head numbly as Kyungsoo smiles at him (causing something in Jongin's chest to flip), and then walked away. Sehun had happened to catch the entire thing, and he pats Jongin on the back condescendingly. Jongin flips him the finger as Sehun walks away, laughing.

"I need help, Lu Han," he moans as he lays his head on Lu Han's shoulder.

Lu Han hums a reply, eyes transfixed on the manga he is reading.

"How does one attract someone's attention, ge."

"Haven't you been doing fine at that? I remember you got Zitao to treat you to lunch. That's pretty much a miracle all on its own."

"It isn't working," and Lu Han shifts him away so he can look at him, eyebrow arched, "Kyungsoo is so clueless, ge."

Lu Han glances at the manga he is reading for a while, forehead furrowed in thought, and then he looks back at Jongin, and Jongin isn't sure he likes what he sees, "this is what you have to do..."

Jongin buys Kyungsoo flowers. Jongin goes to the flower shop, and buys Kyungsoo a big bouquet of light pink (because apparently they symbolized desire and youth or something) roses. He places them in the middle of Kyungsoo's bed, with a little note that says "Be Mine". Jongin thinks it is awfully cheesy and even grossly ridiculous, but he really doesn't know any other way to get Kyungsoo to look at him.

When Kyungsoo wanders out to the living room where all the other members are, bouquet held loosely in one hand as he waves it around, Jongin freezes.

“Did someone leave this on my bed by accident?” he questions, and everyone stays silent, “is this yours, Jongin? I remember you telling me about this coordinator you found cute.”

Behind him, Jongin hears Sehun snort in amusement as the rest of the group agrees that it must belong to Jongin. Lu Han, who is here to leech off Kyungsoo’s cooking, looks at him with pity in his eyes.

“Maybe you should have left your name on the card.”

He buys him a teddy bear next, or he takes one of the many teddy bears given to him by fans, one that has his name sewed on the chest on a little heart, and he gives it to Kyungsoo.

(By give he means placing it on Kyungsoo’s bed when he is not around.)

He’s sure it will work this time, because the teddy bear has his name on it, and Lu Han had promised him that giving a teddy bear symbolizes something, even as he gazes happily at the manga place next to him, opened on a particular page.

When he wakes up the next morning, sunlight hitting the planes of his face, he is met with a mouthful of fur. He pushes at the mountain of fur away and it thuds on the floor. He rolls over to look at it, and realizes it is the teddy bear he has placed on Kyungsoo’s bed last night. He frowns at it sleepily. Was this how Kyungsoo was replying him? Was putting the teddy bear back in his bed a physical answer that read yes I would like to make out with you or -

“You left that on my bed last night, Jongin, your fans are so nice,” Kyungsoo says as he walks into the room, a towel wrapped around his waist.

Jongin’s mouth goes dry.

“Uhm, thank you, how did you know it was mine?”

“Look at the left paw,” and Jongin does, and there is the name of one of his fan club scrawled on it. He sighs.

“Pass me the sugar please,” Jongin demands, and Lu Han passes him a bottle, eyes glued on his phone. He laughs aloud when he receives a text, and furiously types a reply. Jongin thinks Lu Han is really weird, but he’s older and probably has more experience regarding romance and courting, judging from the old pictures of him and various girls Jongin had found online.

He pours the required amount of sugar into the mixture, stirring it lovingly with the wooden spoon. He had never cooked or baked for anyone, not even himself, and now he was attempting to bake cookies for Kyungsoo to just look at him. He stirs the mixture with a little more force.

“You’re supposed to stir it with love, Jongin, or the cookies will taste like anger,” Lu Han chides, eyes not leaving the screen of his phone. He taps on it with his fingers, nails clicking against the surface.

Jongin grumbles as he slows down his pace (because he really did want to make this perfect for Kyungsoo.)

Jongin watches expectantly as Kyungsoo puts the first cookie in his mouth.

Jongin’s face falls along with Kyungsoo’s face as the latter chokes on something, hacking and coughing and demanding for water. Jongin thrusts the banana milk he is drinking towards Kyungsoo, and

Kyungsoo downs the whole bottle in a quick gulp. Jongin is more than confused.

He picks up one of the cookies and bites into it just as Kyungsoo tells him not to.

It tastes fine at first, and then he bites into it -

Lu Han had apparently passed him the salt instead of the sugar.

“I am out of ideas, ge,” Jongin whines to Lu Han, who was watching the drama that was airing on the television. Apparently the EXO-K dorm got better signal or something.

“Why don’t you just tell him you like him?”

“I can’t just do that. It’s Kyungsoo, he’s going to be all oh I like you too, you’re like a brother to me or something. I need a solid plan, ge. I need you to -”

“Wait, I’ll help you later. The guy is going to confess now; I need you to be quiet.”

Jongin sighs audibly and directs his attention to the television screen. The male lead is facing the girl, speechless, and then suddenly he leans forward to kiss her.

In that moment, Jongin knows what he has to do.

He manages to persuade Kyungsoo to spend the evening in their shared room instead of the living room, stating that they should have a roommate bonding session. Kyungsoo relents, and even seems excited about
it.

“So, what do you want to d -”

But Kyungsoo never gets to finish his sentence because Jongin presses him against the wall and kisses him, mouth insistent against Kyungsoo’s. Kyungsoo’s hands on his shoulders still, and then he is kissing Jongin back, slightly hesitant but sure and steady. Jongin registers shock filtering through him, but then Kyungsoo does something with his tongue and he is lost in sensation.

“I like you,” Jongin says when they part, breath catching unevenly. Kyungsoo’s eyes widen at him, but his mouth is tilted in an arc that is more cheeky than shy.

“I know, I’ve been waiting for you to do something.”

“But I’ve been really obvious,” Jongin replies, mind reeling.

Kyungsoo laughs and kisses him again.
