Both girls walked downstairs and into the kitchen to sit down at the table. Santana became slightly nervous when she realised that Rachel's other father had come home and was sitting at the table reading the paper as his husband was dishing up the food. Just before they were noticed Santana pulled Rachel back slightly. Rachel raised an eyebrow in question and Santana started glancing around nervously.

“I'm guessing you've told your dads the kind of shit I used to do to you, right?” Rachel bit her lip and smiled nervously.

“It may have come up, at some point in the last few years.” Santana whimpered as her nerves began to get the better of her. She suddenly felt very sick and wondered if she'd be judged too much if she bolted. She was trying to slyly look over Rachel's shoulder (which wasn't actually that difficult) to determine the distance between her and the front door when she felt Rachel grab her hand and lace their fingers together delicately. She brought her gaze back to the small girl in front of her who was smiling shyly.

“You don't have to do this. I know we've only just started to think about what we're even doing and decided to take everything slow, I mean throwing you into having dinner with my dads is a pretty big leap. I understand if you want to leave.” Santana strongly considered this for a minute before she thought back to yesterday. She sighed and shook her head.

“I'm staying.” Rachel looked at her with wide eyes and Santana smirked confidently. “Don't look so shocked Berry, I'm a Lopez; we don't back down from a challenge.” She winked and grabbed her girlfriend's hand before marching them both into the kitchen. Rachel's dad looked up from his paper and raised an eyebrow at the two girls as they walked in. Santana noted how different this man was, he was slightly shorter than his husband, and very obviously... Jewish.

“We're having a guest for dinner then I take it?” He asked and Rachel's daddy turned around holding a spatula with a grin on his face.

“Honey, we're having a guest over for dinner this evening!” The smaller man sitting at the table rolled his eyes as he stood up and walked over holding out his hand.

“I'm Archie.” He said with a smile. Santana hesitated before dropping Rachel's hand and reached out to shake the offered hand.

“Santana.” Archie raised an eyebrow and took a step back surveying the girl in front of him.

“Marco Lopez's daughter.” Santana nodded as she quickly brought her hand back to her side which Rachel immediately grabbed again. He scrutinized her for a few seconds before nodding and walking back to the table. “Dinner is about to start so feel free to take a seat. Rachel can you grab some glasses please?” The brunette nodded as she gave a final squeeze to the hand that was clasped with hers before moving to the cupboards behind them. Santana slowly walked over to the table and sat down opposite Archie who was suddenly being rather quiet. She glanced around nervously, not knowing where to look and was grateful when Rachel returned to the table with glasses and then took a seat next to Santana. Shortly afterwards, Rachel's daddy placed plates in front of everyone before taking a seat himself. They all started eating in silence and even with her eyes cast down at her plate she could feel the man opposite staring at her.

“So Santana, I hear you're a cheerleader?” She looked up at Rachel's daddy who was smiling at her and she nodded with a small smile of her own.

“Yes sir.” The older man chuckled.
“Please call me Michael, sir makes me sound so old!” He stated dramatically and immediately she realised where Rachel got her dramatic streak from. She allowed herself to relax slightly, as she continued eating.

“So am I being presumptuous by guessing you're one of the cheerleaders that was behind my daughter coming home crying many a time before now?” Santana started choking as she concentrated on not letting the food in her mouth shoot out across the table.

“Dad!” The smaller girl hissed as she rubbed the Latina's back, handing her a glass of water which Santana immediately downed before gasping heavily.

“It's a legitimate question.” He argued calmly as he continued to eat his own dinner. Michael rolled his eyes at his husband's behaviour.

“Not whilst we're having dinner I don't think it is!” Santana placed a hand on the smaller girl's thigh as she managed to finally get her breathing under control again. She sighed and smiled at Rachel telling her it was okay.

“I'm not going to lie to you. I was one of the reasons for that, yes.” Archie grimaced slightly and Santana noticed his grip on his knife tightening, which made her feel slightly more nervous than she already did. She took another deep breath and continued. “I've made a lot of mistakes and treated a lot of people badly, your daughter included. I can't take back what I've done but I want to work hard to start trying to make up for it.” Archie appeared to relax slightly but still didn't look convinced.

“That sounds pretty familiar.” He mumbled as he went back to his food whilst his husband sighed, rubbing his temples. Rachel put her knife and fork down and leaned forwards slightly.

“Sorry, what is that supposed to mean?” She asked glancing between the two men sitting opposite. Santana also looked on confused, she was pretty sure she hadn't been here before. Michael smiled slightly as he took a deep breath.

“It's not important sweetie.” Rachel huffed and shook her head.

“Clearly it is if you feel the need to bring it up during this conversation.” Archie set his cutlery down and sat up mirroring Rachel. Santana was very aware she was the only one still holding her knife and fork and slowly put them down on the table.

“It's just a bit like deja vu that's all. Same situation, different Lopez.” Michael groaned as he buried his face in his hands, Rachel's eyes going wide with her father's words. She glanced over to the Latina and winced when she saw the familiar look of the cheerleader putting her defences up. She'd heard small parts here and there of her fathers in high school and knew that Marco Lopez was probably where Santana inherited her attitude from. Michael could tell this was about to get ugly and so decided to cut in.

“If everyone promises to calm down a little bit I'll explain.” He directed his words at Rachel and his husband who after a few seconds both relaxed and sat back in their seats again. “Okay. I don't know how much of this you're aware of Santana. Your father was in high school with us. He was my best friend for many years and then I met Archie. It was all new to me and I didn't really understand what was happening, so I went to him about it and needless to say it didn't really go too well. He wouldn't come near me or talk to me afterwards and started mildly terrorising myself and Archie, it made things very hard for a long time. After a particularly bad incident at school involving half of the football team, my team mates I might add, I ended up in the nurses office looking like a punching bag.” Rachel gasped and Santana felt her stomach drop. Archie snorted.

“He figured apologising would be enough to make up for everything that happened.” Michael sighed.

“I woke up to the nurse telling me I was lucky to not be in hospital, and it was thanks to your dad jumping in and helping out. He apologised and I accepted.” He shrugged like it was the simplest thing in the world. “My husband is still hung up on it a little bit, but the way I saw it was that your dad just needed some time, and whilst he didn't make the right choices he came to realise what he did was wrong. I mean everyone deserves a second chance, right? Now look at us, we work together at the hospital like and older version of J.D and Turk or something.” He smiled which in turn made Rachel smile. “Daddy really likes watching Scrubs, for obvious reasons.” She looked over to Santana who was still sat up straight, conflict evident on her face. Her smile faltered slightly.

“Santana?” The cheerleader stood up abruptly her hands braced on the table in front of her.

“May I please be excused for a moment?” Rachel started to panic and raised her hand to touch Santana's arm but stopped at the last minute, unsure whether or not to startle the tense girl.

“Of course you can sweetie, come back when you're ready.” Santana nodded and quickly walked out of the kitchen. Rachel looked at her daddy with worried eyes and Michael calmly shook his head.

“She'll be fine, let her have a few minutes and if she doesn't come back, go find her.” Rachel nodded before rounding on her dad who was now poking at his food.

“That wasn't fair! You didn't even give her a chance to explain herself!” Archie raised his head to look at his daughter.

“What is there to explain Rachel? She treated you horribly and now she's sitting here and what? Do you expect me to just smile and pretend it never happened? There's no excuse for what she did!” Rachel stood up knocking the table slightly and both of her fathers looked at her startled.

“You should always let people explain the reasons behind their actions. Santana was the only person who gave me a chance to explain myself when no one else would and so I extended the same courtesy to her and I'm glad I did! I would've thought you'd have done the same.” Both men carried on staring at their daughter. “Santana stepped in and stuck up for me and I owe her so much for that, because otherwise I would've had to stand there and take everyone's judgement and I'm not sure I would've been able to.” She threw down her napkin in true diva style and stormed off in search for the cheerleader. Michael stood up quietly and started to clear the table as his husband remained where he was staring at the wall in front of him, taking in his daughter's words.

Santana cursed herself as she failed to stop the tears from rolling down her face. She sat herself on the stairs and could still hear everything that was being said after she left the table. She'd never really known what her parents were like in high school, she'd never really taken the time to ask them anything like that before. She had no idea what her father had done to Michael and Archie when they were younger, he always speaks so highly of all of the people he works with and never seemed to be the judgemental close minded type, she just figured they'd never had a problem. She couldn't help but think of how there was obviously still a small amount of animosity towards her father from Archie and she whimpered as she realised that she'd done exactly the same thing. Her relationship with Rachel was already going to be a bumpy ride and she was really hoping for the support of the two families to help them through it all.

“I know that look, you're worrying about things. I thought I told you to stop that?” Santana looked up and was met by warm chocolate eyes staring into her own dark eyes. “I have a sixth sense about these things remember?” Santana's eyebrows shot up as she took in the girl's words.

“You're still claiming that's true huh?” Rachel nodded as she took a seat on the step just above the one Santana was on and wrapped her arms around the cheerleader's shoulders. Santana instinctively leaned back into the smaller girl and sighed.

“Your dad hates me doesn't he.” Rachel brought a hand up and dragged it soothingly through Santana's hair in an attempt to relax her.

“My dad doesn't hate anyone. He's just wary of things, he knows first hand how hard it was and doesn't want me to go through the same.” Santana sighed and reached a hand back to softly stroke Rachel's cheek.

“I guess it's going to take a lot of persuasion, but I'll make sure to show him that I have no intentions of letting anyone mess with my girlfriend.” The hand that was still stroking through Santana's hair stopped and the cheerleader felt Rachel tense up.

“Oh shit.” She mumbled and went to move away from Rachel. She'd barely moved when an arm shot out like a ninja and pulled her to sit back down. There was silence and Santana sat there, her back to Rachel still and was looking around nervously, not sure if she was to speak or not. She felt arms wrap around her shoulders again and she shivered as she felt soft lips brush up against a particularly sensitive spot behind her ear.

“Stop trying to run away from me. I don't scare that easily and neither should you.” She closed her eyes and swallowed as she felt and heard the faint whisper next to her ear. Rachel placed a few more soft kisses down the Latina's neck before Santana turned to face her catching the brunette's eyes before wrapping a hand around the back of Rachel's neck and brought her into a smouldering kiss. Rachel moaned straight away and Santana slipped her tongue between the smaller girl's lips and explored slowly drawing out another moan from Rachel who brought her hands up and buried them in the cheerleader's soft, dark hair. Santana turned so she was fully facing the other girl and rested her other hand on Rachel's hip, bringing her closer without breaking the kiss. Rachel pulled away and trailed kisses and soft bites down Santana's neck and moved her hands to rest on the taller girl's thighs, squeezing the soft flesh gently. Santana bit back a moan fully aware that if she was able to hear the conversation that was had at the kitchen table from here, then there was a large chance Rachel's dads would hear this.

Shit.

She fought against every urge she had to let the diva carry on what she was doing and grabbed Rachel's shoulder gently and pushed her back, despite every single fibre of her being screaming at her to let her keep going. Rachel looked at her in confusion.

“Did I go too far?” She asked, trying to get her breathing back under control. Santana groaned and shook her head.

“No just... if your dads don't already hate me, I'm sure hearing us messing around would probably seal the deal indefinitely.” Rachel chuckled and nodded her head. She moved to get up and pulled the taller girl up with her.

“Come on, we'd best get back before my dads think you've bolted or something.” Santana nodded even though she really didn't feel like facing the smaller Berry man again. Rachel reached up and cupped the taller girl's cheek softly and smiled.

“Suck it up Lopez.” She winked as they made their way back into the kitchen. Archie immediately stood up and walked over to the two girls. Rachel held her girlfriend's hand tight and moved to stand in front of her slightly. She could see her father hesitate before smiling shyly.

“I think I owe you an apology Santana. Rachel was right, I should have at least given you a chance to explain yourself. The fact is, if she's forgiven you for what's happened in the past then that's all the convincing we should need.” Santana didn't know what to say or do so she just smiled. He smiled back and let his gaze flicker down to the girls' joined hands. He looked back to the two girls and raised an eyebrow in question and Santana felt herself become very nervous again. It was one thing being forgiven as a friend, it was a whole different story when it came to the thought of your little girl having a relationship with a girl who used to torment her every day..

“Are you two..?” Rachel stood up straighter, which Santana didn't think was possible, and looked at her dad.

“In a relationship? Yes. Well, we've just sort of agreed on it a few minutes ago but we've already discussed everything.” Archie smirked.

“Everything? In five minutes?”

“Actually it was more like ten...” The small Berry man raised his gaze to the cheerleader whilst Rachel turned slightly. “That's not important.” Santana quickly said. Rachel and her dad looked back to each other again.

“We had a very in depth conversation last night whilst I was at Santana's, about our feelings and how we were going to proceed with this new found attraction to one another.” She smiled in her usual confident 'Rachel Berry way' which was usually reserved for Glee and Santana couldn't help but smirk. Her dad nodded slowly, still smiling.

“Okay sweetie, if you girls have 'discussed it' then that's great.” Michael suddenly appeared adding his two cents to the conversation. “Isn't it honey.” Archie just nodded again and Santana finally felt she could relax a little bit.

“Great! Well I am now informing you that Santana will be staying the night tonight, to make up for allowing me over last night.”

“She is?” Her fathers said at the same time and Rachel nodded confidently.

“I am?” Santana asked and Rachel quickly spun around and shot her a look. She looked at the two Berry men again with a nervous smile. “I am.”

“Open door policy Rachel.” Her daddy warned and the small diva rolled her eyes.

“Didn't you hear what I said before, we're taking it slow. We haven't even begun to discuss the plans surrounding the sexual part of our new relationship yet.” her smaller dad groaned and started to walk away whilst Santana seemed to be doing a great job impersonating a beetroot. Michael scratched his head with an uncomfortable smile.

“Enough Rachel! I get it just... keep the door open please?” Rachel nodded with a dramatic sigh as she went to leave the kitchen, still pulling the cheerleader with her. They made it up into Rachel's room and she closed the door over slightly as she wrapped her arms around the taller girls waist. Santana instinctively wrapped her arms around her girlfriend's shoulders and rested her chin on top of her head.

“See, that didn't go that badly.” Santana's eyes widened and was about to argue when she realised she was exhausted from the last hour's events.

“If you say so Rach. Can we maybe lie down for a while, I think my heart is finally starting to beat again after dinner.” Rachel nodded and they moved over to the bed. Santana felt herself drifting off as she held the smaller girl tight to her own body.
