Heroes!

Okay, it's well past time I talked a little bit about my new favorite show. So they've divided the castaways by race . . . What? That's not my favorite show? I couldn't name a person on their to save my life? Oh sorry . . .

As I was saying, Jack Bauer is this secret agent . . . Huh? 24 doesn't have new episodes until January? I was going to talk about my NEW favorite show? Oh, right . . .

Heroes! Oh yeah, that's right! I'm loving this show, and not just because it's basically a well realized comic book in TV format. The characters are good, the story is good and interesting, and things seem to be going at a good pace. Some great comic creators are involved in different aspects of the show, and the knowledge really shows through. I'll leave it to you to find the various characters and the gist of the show, it's not particularly hard (a good starting point is http://www.nbc.com/heroes, where you can even watch episodes).

My favorite character (and Jess' as well) is Hiro, the unassuming Japanese office worker who finds out he can stop time and teleport. It's his reaction to having this power and his normal reaction to it. His desire for responsibility and quoting of Spiderman, but also being lured by the darker temptations of his power and learning his lesson when he gives in.

I'm participating in a discussion at a site I frequent, iFanboy (discussion here: http://www.ifanboy.com/archives/001100.html). In that discussion, it is asked if Claire is a killer for what she did at the end of the last episode. Turns out in the graphic novel extras they have on the site, she's shown going out of her way to save the person and she was just trying to teach him a lesson. But it's these situations, where they are young and brash and don't fully think through the effects of using there powers where the series hits home. When their decisions, though poor, are understandable, then you know there's some good writing there.

Now I'm not saying everything is perfect, but I'm really enjoying this show.
