It's a terrible feeling. The death of a woman that you love.

I'm sorry, Wesley.

...Thank you, Rupert.

Just a sentiment doesn't seem like much to help you. You shouldn't have had to remember that in such a way. It shouldn't have been broadcast.

No, the sentiment isn't much, but it is an honest one.

No. I shouldn't have. And nobody else should have seen it, either. There are countless other memories it could have picked, but those... It goes beyond an invasion of privacy.

This would be one of those days were sobriety is hugely overrated. Luckily, Gabriel's hidden liquor cabinet has apparently been passed onto me. ...Though I have this uncanny feeling the dog is judging me for it.

Were you spared?

You are bigger than the dog, Wesley.

This time. I was. In the past I haven't been, although to this extent I've never had myself played with. I'm thankful for that. It bothers me enough just to see others like yourself being disrespected in this manner, enough.

I apologize. I didn't mean to watch.

You misjudge just how very well this animal can stare. But it's never for long. He's still young, and I think he finds messing up my notes far more entertaining than having a staring contest.

I can't fault you for watching. Even I've witnessed other's visions today. It's unsettling.

Hopefully it doesn't happen again any time soon. I had heard that curses were normally light-hearted, but I have yet to experience any of these.

But it's still only an animal. It is...only an animal, isn't it?

Something about March, perhaps. It's one of those kinds of months, between seasons. People get a bit weird, melancholy, I guess. Maybe it's the same for the gods or the like which power this dimension.

Yes. It's a puppy.

Others seem to think the gods gain pleasure out of everyone else's misfortune.

Well then, tell it who its master is.

Perhaps they do. Or they're bored. It's possible a creature of great power only seeks to find a way to lord it over others. In any case, I don't like being subjected to such whims.

Master? Certainly not me. Connor decided to keep it. I've no idea why it keeps finding me.

I don't think there's a person alive who does, really.

Er-- If he's Connor's dog then I don't see why he should have any bearing on whether or not you have a few. Not that I've ever owned a pet to compare my experience to.

If there is, he or she must be a very special kind of masochist. I suppose the best that we can do for the moment is to continue seeking an exit where there was an entrance. And to not give them the pleasure of being miserable.

If only it were so easy to control one's emotions.

Perhaps unnecessary when we're all so capable of self-delusion, when we need to be. People, I mean.
