Marco hesitates just outside the door. LAST BREATH OF FREEDOM. Ah, but such things never lasted. It could be worse, he told himself, he could have been stuck as a nurse for a week. Complete with his Pops' regulation leopard print stockings and pink nurse uniform. That would have been embarrassing. Somehow red-heads always bested him though. He really hated that.

He knocks heavily on the door. "Yo."

And there went the nail laquer all over the tip of her finger, due to her startled state. Frowning, Grell stood up and took lengthy strides to the door before yanking it open.

"Must you know like a BARBARIAN?!" She held up a hand, showing the damage he caused. "Look what you made me do!"

Nonplussed, the phoenix just returns with a lineface stare and pure deadpan. "I'm sorry mistress. Shall I clean it up?"

That will go on to the list of Things To Do.

"That would be most appreciated. Thank you." Grell stepped to the side with a sharp smirk. "Your uniform is over on the chair there." She pointed it out with a slender, unpainted finger.

Only with decades of practice does Marco keep his composure. One week. Not even the blink of an eye in the gaze of a phoenix. This would go quickly.

The color is annoying, though not nearly as much as the pattern. Che. She really hated him, eh? "Oh. It's lovely," he deadpanned coolly, "Thank you for taking time to pick one with a pocket. I'm sure that will come in useful." And with that, he simply ties it on, mentally reviewing a hundred ways he'd like to kill the bitch.

"What would you have me start with?" he asks in the same deadpan tone as everything else.

No, she just enjoys torturing her hapless victims.

"i believed at least one pocket would suffice."

Grell watched as he put on the apron, wondering how he could stay so composed. Impressive.

She took her seat again, crossing her legs and gestured to the other chair. "Please remove this laquer from my finger, to start, thank you."

At least Grell was being polite.

Marco doesn't even arch an eyebrow, just evenly, stoically asks, "Where's the remover?" Since he suspected filing it off would end very badly for him and not be worth the momentary satisfaction or amusement.

Grell lifted up the bottle, dangling it with a grin between two fingers.

Marco was playing this wisely.

"Allow me," he resignedly took the bottle and cleaned off a small nail polish brush to dip in the solution. He crouches down and sets her hand someplace easy and that would be comfortable for her and gently gets to work.

A moment he never thought he'd be thanking Izou for experience with...

While her new maid servant removed the polish, Grell relaxed in her seat, leaning one elbow onto the seat of the chair and resting a chin on the palm of her hand.

"There is a chair to sit on, you know." But the imagery was rather nice. Grell did pay attention to how he worked, wondering just where he learned this.

Aside from the fact that sharing the chair with her would be creepy, Marco silently wondered if it was just a trap. Or like a dog being offered a place on the couch. Either way... "This is a good angle," he returns casually in a smooth voice.

If she wanted to know where he got the techniques~ She'd have to ask.

"It's unbecoming for any servant to do a job such as this KNEELING." Grell adjusted her glasses before continuing. "It's also unbecoming to decline your mistress' offer, especially after she was merely thinking of your well being."

All that time as a butler was starting to pay off...

Gritting his teeth in irritation, Marco quickly tries to figure out how to get one of the other chairs closer without disrupting his work, or dragging it on the floor. Finally, he just cheats and uses a phoenix leg to tug it a little closer, bracing it underneath with a phoenix talon.

"As you request."

And then back to the task.

How can he possibly find that position comfortable anyway? Men are so stubborn. That phoenix leg was unexpected, yet all the reaction she gave was an eyebrow raise.

"Inventive."

The task at hand was interesting to watch, however mundane it actually was. "You're not unfamiliar with this. Why, may I ask?" Grell could just imagine Marco doing his own nails secretly.

Marco just grins at both of those. He doesn't show off his phoenix powers often, but he is proud about having the most control over his devil fruit ability of any zoan in the world.

"My brother, Izou, is an okama," Marco explained as he slowly finished up and then moved towards the polish with a questioning quirk of his eyebrows to see if she was okay with that. "I'm not sure if that word exists in your world... it's someone who believes in neutral gender or femininity even for males. Izou dresses as a geisha and wears all that even to battle. Even the geta sandals. It makes him comfortable. But if he shows up, I only called him Trap-chan and didn't tell you his gender one way or another. He usually gets a kick out of tripping people up." And damn, Marco missed that about him.

"Izou's wise beyond his years too. Accepts everyone as they are. 16h division commander, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better friend."

Grell was going to inquire about what an 'okama' was, but perhaps her quizzical look spoke for her. As Marco explained, Grell imagined an effeminate male standing over a large pile of bodies, while allowing the wind to heroically whip through her thick locks. Already this Izou person was a role model for her.

"Such people exist..." Grell took the pause to examine and scrutinize the handiwork. "This Izou has taught you well." A nod of approval. "Do you know how to do the rest?"

If he knew how to get the polish off then he knows how to put it on.
