Given that the last couple of times they met, Japan was usually the one taking Marco unawares, this time he was determined to get the drop on the dark-haired country. Literally since he dropped completely out of the sky, withdrawing blue flames as he fell and attempted to tackle Japan straight into the ground. Had he been more of the yelling type, he might have said something to give a small warning, but really, where was the fun in that?

Well he certainly wasn't expecting that. And it was an issue already. Hadn't he learned this from his spar with Seifer back in 1904? It was too late to analyze it now, though. Marco dropping from the sky while he was looking at the ground was surprising enough. The only warning he had received was the brief shadow offset from the lowered sun.

His delayed attempt to jump out of the way was clumsy and he was still caught in that tackle. At the very least, he moved to turn and give a kick to Marco's chest.

Well, true to his word, Japan stayed on guard. Which made him more alert than even Marco tended to be. He took the kick hard, but burned some blue flames to heal back any serious damage and landed on his feet to quickly aim a reciprocal kick at Japan's midsection. Long build ups to fights were so unnecessary.

He certainly tries to stay on guard. But falling from the sky had definitely been surprising. It was only ninja reflexes that allowed him to not lie there like a lump. Now, he was more in the mindset of a fight. He moved to jump back a little too slow, but unsheathed his sword to hold in front of himself defensively. That still sent him back a bit, but the moment there was a break, he jumped at Marco, swinging his katana.
