Rating: PG
Summary: Don and Danny are dumb and go back to Latimir for some supplies. Then get a bit squished.
the log:
Danny: Are you absolutely certain this is a a good idea? I mean, I'm pretty sure Jazz is going to kill me for running off like this.
Don: As long as we're careful, we should be fine. We just have to make sure not to make any sudden movements or step on any loose debris. ... with all those things running around, we need all the help we can get. *Don's looking up at the building
Danny: True. I don't know what those things are, but they are definitely bad news. The kind of bad news you don't want to go up against without some major firepower.
Don: And that's exactly what your mother had. *He starts walking slowly onto the collapsed remains of Latimir.* Follow where I step. *Yeah, he's thinking his every move out.*
Danny: Well, you're the expert here. *Danny shrugs loosely and follows in his steps lightly. All of his instincts were crying out to float above the ruins, something he couldn't exactly pull off right now.*
Don: Well, not really an expert on walking on and in collapsed buildings, but at least an engineer. *He grins weakly, then reaches up to point towards one side of the ruins.* It should be over there. This was just the safest way to get up here.
Danny: More than I know. I'm more of an expert on the being smashed into buildings, myself. *He eyes the distance skeptically.* I think we can make it.
Don: Or phasing through them. *Short grin, then considers his step for a moment before pulling himself up on some higher debris.* Okay, we're gonna have to go up, then down.
Danny:*grins wryly back* You got me there. *He eyes the pile of debris speculatively, beofre starting to pull himself up.* Maybe we should have brought a rope.
Don: And risk pulling down everything by putting so much stress on a small area? *... He's actually trying to meet you halfway with his reasoning and not going completely engineer on you, Danny. You should feel special.*
Danny: ...Point. *He kept forgetting that he couldn't just eliminate gravity with a thought anymore.*
Don: I have one of those every now and then. *Grin, goes to offer Danny a hand after one point.* Here.
Danny: I'd be worried if you didn't. *takes the offered hand and keeps climbing carefully.*
Don: Me too. *Helps him up the rest of the way, then lets go of his hand and starts moving again. They're on top of hte structure now.*
Danny: *stays in a crouch for a moment, as he surveys the obstacles in front of them.* Man, this place took a bad hit.
Don: *A bit more serious, now.* ... yeah. *Rubs the back of his head.* This is the second time that "home" has been destroyed for me
Danny: Back in New York? That sucks.
Don: *A shrug.* We found a better place. ... I don't think we can find a better one here, but we can build one. Once it's safe to.
Danny: *gestures at the ruins around them* It would be tough to make a worse one, But at least we'll have plenty of materials.

Don: *Nod.* Plenty! *He walks over some more.* If everyone works on it, it shouldn't take too long at all.
Don: We can rebuild Latimir better, stronger, uhh... faster wouldn't work for a building, would it?
Don: *Good thing Mikey isn't here. He'd laugh now>*
Danny: *laughs* Wouldn't be the first building I've seen walk away.
Danny: Or vanish. Did I ever mention the time Dad accidentally sent our house to another dimension for a week?
Don: ... I forgot. Your Earth is weird. *Teasing. Maybe.*
Danny: Like you have room to talk.
Don: *Turns around and puts his hands on his hips.* What are you talking about, Danny? My Earth is perfectly normal.
Danny: *extremely dry expression* Your archenemy is an alien slug in a robot suit. With spikes. Can you say overcompensating?
Don: *Puts a hand to his chin, mock thinking.* ... Hmmm. I'm pretty sure I don't have to overcompensate for anything. I mean, compared to all the stuff that happens to your world, our archenemy and what happens to us is downright normal.
Danny: Oh, haha. Better not tell Jazz that. She's been trying to be normal for years.
Don: ... *FFFFFT* She's trying to break tradition? *His footing slips slightly, and he frowns.* Woah... gotta be more careful.
Danny: If by breaking tradition you mean trying to change the unversal opinion that the Fenton family are all ghost obsessed loons then yes.
Don: *Laughs.* No, I meant trying not to be weird. *Laughs, looking back at Danny*
Danny: Too late for tha- *And a large rat pops out of the ground right where the teen was about to step. He yelps and stumbles backward, but is just about to regain his balance when he steps into a soft area. His leg falls into the debris even as he slams hard onto his back.
Don: Danny! *Eyes wide and he stumbles quickly down the debris, sliding down next to his friend.* You okay?!
Danny: *stares blankly up at the sky, a little disoriented.* Fine, I think. Wasn't expecting that. *He tries to sit up and pull his leg back out, but winces in pain.* Okay, maybe not.
Don: *Puts his hands up.* Woah, Danny. J-Just don't move. You could have that entire space in around your leg. Hold still, all right?
Danny: ...Okay, not moving is good. I can do that.
Don: *Sighs in relief and gets out his bo.* Can you feel your leg at all? *Don looks around the area, already looking for the best point to get some leverage.* Warmth? cold? Moisture?
Danny:*shoots Don a look that speaks volumes* It feels cold. Like it always does? And it hurts, but it doesn't feel like its broken. But I'm guessing I won't be running around any time soon.
Don: *A slight sigh of relief.* Sprained, if we're lucky. Now hold still and I'll get you out of there. *The bo is gently inserted next to Danny's leg.* Move it on the count of three.
Danny: *nods with determination and reaches out to brace himself with his hands.* Okay, on your count.
Don: *Nods, shifting his bo just slightly.* .... One, two... THREE! *He jams it in, using the leverage to push part of the rubble away.*
Danny:*plants his hands firmly on the rubble and yanks his legs back as quikly as he can*
Don: *And just as Danny manages to pull his leg out, Donatello hears a little beep. His eyes go very, very wide.* ............. uh. Danny? *He doesn't move his staff at all.*
Danny: *freezes, still sprawled on the ground.* ....Please tell me that isn't what I think it is.
Don: *Nervous grin followed by equally nervous laughter.* .... o-one of your mom's pieces of equipment. *And then his eyes go wider.* ... a-and I think it's a-a-activatiiiiiing!
Danny: *hurriedly struggles to his feet.* This is so not good. *He grins equally nervously.* This might be a good time to leave.
Don: *Laughs nervously some more as he feels more movement under him.* R-Right. ... ... ... RUN!
Danny: *moves along as fast as he can with that injured leg* I'm working on it!
Don: *Rushes down after Danny, putting his bo away, and helps him run.* C'mon, we'll go toge-- *And that's when there's a loud BOOM behind them. Parts of the building go flying as an ectoblast rocks the building.* Did I ever mention that your parents are insane?!
Danny: *concentrates on trying to move as fast as he can on the unstable surface. Being able to fly would be really nice right now.* ...It might have come up once or twice.
Don: More like a half do--*Donny lets out a shout as the debris they're standing on starts to--* Shell, it's going to-- *--cave in.* Oh sheeeeeeeeeeelllll! *Don tries to catch onto something, but that only falls into the collapsing part of the building, too.*
Danny: *trips over the debris and falls to his knees. He quickly rolls back to his feet and keeps running.* This isn't working!
Don: *Still trying to climb out.* Danny! *He tries to climb out, then shifts and lets out a scream as something snaps.*
Danny: Don! *And Danny heroically but incredibly stupidly limps back to help his friend.*
Don: *Gritting through his teeth.* D-Don't get any closer... this entire section's going to cave in! *And indeed, it falls down some more. And Don tries to pull himself out, but just slips down. *A gasp of pain.* M-My leg's broken.... you gotta get help!
Danny: *frowns stubbornly as he lowers himself to the ground, trying to spread out his weight as much as possible. He scans the area worriedly for ideas. If he could only fly this would be easy.* There's no time. By the time I found someone who could help this entire place would be gone. And I don't leave my friends behind.
Don: *Shakes his head.* Your... your leg is-- **Cries out again as the debris shifts on his leg.** --b-better than mine.
Danny: In case you haven't noticed, this entire area is collapsing. I wouldn't make it out, anyway. Even if I was willing to risk it. *Still trying to keep himself as light as possible, he slides forward a little and tries to get closer.*
Don: *Closes his eyes and turns his head away. He knows that the chances of Danny getting out by himself are slim. Quietly.* You idiot.... *But even so, he doesn't let go of his hold. If Danny really wants to try. Don opens his eyes again and looks at his friend, trying to figure out the best path despite his pain.* M-More to the left. Go more to your left.
Danny: *Even if there was a safe way out, he wouldn't go. He couldn't. Abandoning Don would go against everything he stood for. He was a hero, even if he was nothing more than human right now.He couldn't ignore a friend in trouble just because it was dangerous. He shifts over and follows the new path.*
Don: *Worried eyes.* S-Stop! Hold still for a sec-- *Lets out a cry as he slips further down, the debris slowly no longer holding his weight.* Danny.... *There's real fear in his eyes.* You idiot.. you idiot... *He's not thinking about himself, just worried his friend might end up dead because he's trying to help him.*
Danny: *freezes as the debris starts to shift, but then looks horrified as he sees Don start to slip. He tenses as he frantically wracks his mind for a way out of this situation.* You can call me that after we get out of here.
Don: *Closes his eyes tight, gritting his teeth again.* You don't have the upper body strength to pull me out, Danny. You know that. *Slips a bit further.*
Danny: ...I know.
Don: *Just looks at him for a long moment, then.* ... to your right. Two feet. Then forward five. Then two feet to your left... a-and I think you can... make it from there. *Voice grows quieter as he speaks. Not due to exhaustion, just... due to a silent horror.*
Danny: *Doesn't respond as he concentrates on following those instructions without shifting any more of the rubble pile. Wasn't like anything he could say would make this better anyway.*
Don: *When Danny finally gets to him, he reaches over to touch his forearm. Even if the movement makes him slip a little.* I'm sorry.... *The debris caves in just a little more.*
Danny: *forces a small smile* Hey, don't stress so much. This is hardly the first guaranteed to be fatal stunt I've pulled. There's still a chanve we could get out of this.
Don: *Quirks a weak grin.* We're so getting in trouble for this, so we're dead meat either way.
Danny: Just like home, then. *He eyes the rubble trapping his friend.* If I remove the pieces slowly do you think we could get you out of there?
Don: *Looks behind him for a moment, then squeezes Danny's forearm. Weak laugh.* I think.. we don't even have a minute. More like thirty seconds. *And the debris collapses in a bit more.* ... s-so make sure you're ready.
Danny:...Wonderful. *And he braces himself, hoping there would be an opportunity to escape from this.*
Don: ... the wait's the worst part. *Weak laugh.* ... W-We'll get out of this... somehow. Even if it's a day later. Promise. *Day later as in... revived.*
Danny: ...That is not a good option.
Don: *Weak grin.* Hope for the best? *The remains of the building start to buckle.*
Danny: But expect the worst.
Don: *Nods.* Y-Yeah. The worst. *Swallows.* Thanks... for staying with me.
Danny: Like I could have left you behind. That's not the kind of thing I could ever live with. Even if Jazz is probably going to kill me for this.
Don: She's definitely going to kill y-y--youuuu! *And that's when the collapse finally happens and Donny can feel himself falling. He reaches out and tries to pull Danny's body close to shield him as they start to fall, but he can't quite reach--!*
Danny: *Yelps at the all too familiar feeling of falling. He tries to aim himself to fall close to Don, but the falling debris batters him and blocks his view of Don for a few crucial seconds.*
Don: Dan-- *Lets out a cry as he hits something hard, and his communicator switches on at the impact. For a moment, his vision blacks out, and then he slams down, his communicator being pushed out from under his belt by the way he falls, bouncing close to his head. He lets out a moan of pain for a moment, and then a scream as the building continues caving in around them.*
Danny: *screams once as he slams onto a pile of rubble, the harsh impact leaving him stunned and half-conscious even as he is crushed and pinned by debris from above.. *
Don: *Manages to cry out.* Danny! Danny, where-- *Lets out another cry of pain, his face illuminated by his communicator as more debris slides and falls towards them.*
Don: *He doesn't get a response, and his eyes widen as everything continues collapsing around them. And then, he looks down to his communicator, horror spreading across his face. He realizes it's on and it's recording and there's no time to--* We're in Latimir. I-I'm sorry! *He manages to reach for it, and without another word, he shuts it off. If he's doing to die, there's no way in hell he's making anyone see it...!*
