Elder Spawn: Latimir coniurati July 15 2010, 01:46:50 UTC

Tir ran about to dodge another barrage of needles from the creature, rolling quickly behind some cover. It wouldn't last though. Nothing in the building was going to under that kind of power. He needed help. And a plan. Preferably both with some promptness. He couldn't even get close enough to attack.

It's hard to even get outside of the building like this. Yousuke's ducking right inside the lobby doors, watching the monster move-- How did it even know what's around it? It didn't have any eyes as far as he could see, but it still knew exactly where to attack. What was this thing?

But he does spot Tir in the battle field. If he could only...

"Hey!" He throws his voice in Tir's direction, seeing if he could get his attention and possibly collaborate. Souji was with him too, just a little bit behind.

"Hey!" Tir called out in return, but was interrupted by another volley of needles. Just where did that beast KEEP all of those things? Was it self regenerating? He could hardly tell. Not like he'd ever get a good look. However...

Something changed. Tir figured he'd no longer be the monster's focus, but it was one thing to notice it was turning and another entirely to literally not feel it paying attention to you any longer. What was that? It was... he didn't like it. And the beast now seemed to focus on Yousuke and his companion.

Oh yes, there was much more power there.

"Are you okay?" Souji calls out to Tir. These things... He'd never seen anything like them. But whatever it was, he feels its "gaze" turn to them after it attacked Tir. Souji came up to Yousuke's side, gripping his sword tightly. This wasn't like fighting Shadows. They had to be careful about this.

"Is it.. looking at us?" he whispers to Souji, crouching low to make himself small as he felt the hairs on the back of his neck prickle up. There was something extremely unsettling about it, worse than any shadow he'd ever faced. They'd have to play defensively... But they couldn't just sit and wait for an opening while Latimir was in danger either.

Yousuke summons Susano-O silently to cast Masukukaja, the field of the effect reaching Tir as well. Seeing at the creature was rather lumbering, a boost in speed would be particularly useful.

"Whatever you do, do NOT attack its shell! Lute says it will react if you do!" Tir called out from behind his cover.

"All right." That left a very small target area. Souji looks around, before he nods to Yousuke. They could both sense it. If it had its "eyes" on them, then they couldn't stand around in the building. After Yousuke cast his buff, Souji took off to the side. He was trying to lead it away from the apartment lobby. It seems to work, so Souji ground himself and summons Yoshitsune to cast Ziodyne at its strange mouth.

Normally with only the two of them, the logical choice would be to go for a pincer attack. But this thing obviously only had one weak spot, so that tactic would be useless in this situation.

Yousuke instead tries to crowd the monster, running and feinting at it, working like a sheepdog to drive it backwards. He's very careful of the creature's spikes, which sometimes shoot out. But besides that, it felt a bit strange... He knew that it was holding out; it hadn't even begun to fight yet.

Souji had to dodge the spines it often shot out, kept on his toes. He only had every so often to counter back with an attack. The important thing was to be patient, since the shell was out of question. But as the battle went on, he notices the attacks changing up. Fire, ice- he had to be careful with which Persona he had equipped now.

He thinks they're starting to wear it down now, but... something felt wrong. He didn't know what, but the feeling twists his stomach into knots.

Yousuke looks at Souji sideways, and notices the same uneasiness he was feeling in his stance. Something wasn't right. Either it was holding back, or it had some sort of ace up it's sleeve... carapace... Whatever. All he knew was that he didn't like it.

He couldn't switch elements around like Souji, but thankfully the thing didn't seem resistant to wind. He casts another garudyne , trying to focus the attack on the head, making sure he didn't catch the shell. It cried out in pain, and shrunk back. It looked like it was scuttling away.

"...Is that it?" No way. It couldn't be. Curious on instinct, Yousuke drops his guard just a little and steps forward.

It opens its mouth to reveal rows of serrated teeth, and a dangerously flickering light.

Souji narrows his eyes, but. When Yousuke approaches it...

"Yousuke, wait-!"

The creature suddenly erupts with an explosive attack that surrounds itself, knocking Souji and Yousuke clear off their feet.

He feels being sucked in just slightly before the blast, and he knows. Knows what's going to happen, and knows that there was nothing he could do to stop it. There was something to be said for that exact moment of terror. He could only brace himself mentally, and close his eyes.

Being closer to the epicenter of the attack, Yousuke is blown back much more violently. It's like an explosion. Plumes of fire and sheer force tear at his skin, and he's flung into the side of the apartment building.

He crumples to the ground in a heap. The air's been knocked out of his lungs, and he's gasping for breath. The real pain hasn't even set in yet.

"Yousuke...!" Souji calls out, struggling to his feet. His back had skidded along the road, tearing his shirt to shreds to cut his skin. He felt burns from the explosion, but he couldn't allow that to stop him now. He'd caught sight of his partner being flung back into the apartment; he had to help him!

As for the beast, it seems satisfied with the damage it'd done. It made like it was going to attack again, but Souji snaps back and strikes first, no doubt fueled by emotion. Hassou Tobi from Yoshitsune. That seemed to finish it off for good...

Souji rushes to Yousuke's side, feeling a sense of dread settling in. Even though his body was in pain, he hurries.

He hears Souji's cry for him, and he tries to get up, pushing up off his arms and standing to his feet... No good. He stumbles forward, landing back down on his side. It's hard to breathe. His eyes open, but his vision's swimming. He can feel blood run down his face.

Is the monster finished? Is Souji okay? He has no idea. He can hardly sense which way is up, let alone his surroundings.

"Souji..." He croaks, trying to rise again on instinct. This time he can't even get to his feet. There's a searing pain shooting up from his ankle, one of the first things he actually registers. Broken...?

"I'm here. Don't try to get up..." He kneels beside Yousuke, despite his legs screaming in protest, and carefully turns him on his back to survey the damage. Burned and bleeding. Shit. If he was bleeding over his face, he probably hit his head. He'd hit the apartment full force too, after taking the brunt of the blast. There might be internal damage...

Still, he had to try something, and that tiny bit of desperate hope fought off his panic for now. He quietly summons Ishtar to cast a healing spell over them, hoping it would do something for this.
