Summary: Ty Lee and Jake discussed the eerie scream and decided that a search

Jake was just on his way out as Ty Lee arrived-- a few moments later and they would have missed each other. As it was, the cowboy was more interested in finding his brother than standing around for a chat.

"I got to go," He insisted as he attempted to slide past the young woman. "Neil's here somewhere, but I lost the connection with him. Technology never does what I need it to do."

He was already halfway down the hall as he continued. "I don't think he's in the city-- it didn't sound like he was near any buildings, so that means he's got to be somewhere outside the limits, with all the monsters..."

"Wait!" Ty Lee cried, running to catch up with him. "I'm going to come, okay? We can look for him at the same time as we look for the other person, and everything'll be okay!"

Though really, going outside the city, even with someone else, sounded even worse than wandering around inside it alone.

Jake stopped in his tracks and turned to give Ty Lee a serious look. "Look, I know I said I'd help you find that other person, but Neil's my kid brother and I'm not about to let anything happen to him. I already had to go through this once and if they found some way to bring him here, then I'm not going to let them take him away again."

He turned from her. "I'm going to get my brother. I'll help with that other thing once I've got him and I know he's alright."

Ty Lee hesitated. Wanting to protect the people that you were close to was definitely something that she understood, and there was no way she was going to get in Jake's way if that was what he was set on doing-- but at the same time, she really, really, really didn't want to go out searching all by herself.

"Could you, like, multitask...?" she asked hopefully.

The former detective shook his head. "I'm sorry. In most cases, I'd be more than happy to, Bambina, but this is my brother." He almost said more, but stopped himself. No...he didn't need to go through all that again. But he knew what he'd heard and he knew it was Neil. Even if the brothers hadn't been able to say much, Jake wasn't about to let his little brother down.

"I need to find him before something else does," and he quickened his pace as he headed down the stairs, taking as many as three at a time in his descent.

Ty Lee sighed, deflated, and then started down herself at a much slower pace. Once she reached the ground floor she left the building and walked down the street much more carefully and timidly than she had done on her mad rush from Marshall to Latimir. There weren't very many people outside at the moment, and she kept an eye out for potential fellow seekers just as much as she did for anyone who could have made that scream.

After Jake had gone on ahead and she had started down the road, Ty Lee suddenly noticed that she was being distantly followed-- not by a human, but by a... bear? That was what it reminded her of, anyway.

Turning again, she jogged back in the direction that she had come. "Hey!" she called. "Are you okay?"

"So you're going to help?" Ty Lee perked up noticeably. "Jake-- that's the guy I was with-- had to go help his brother, but I'm still going to go look for the person who screamed."

Glancing to either side of her before starting off again-- something that had quickly become habit in a city filled with dangerous monsters-- Ty Lee started up again. She could jog at a pretty fast pace, but she wasn't sure about her companion, so she decided to take it slow at least for the time being.

"It might not have even been a person-- people don't think it sounded like one, and I guess they're right, but still." She glanced back at Noble Heart. "I mean, you're not a person, but you're not a monster either, and if you needed help you'd want people to come look for you, right?"

Mia hurried down the stairs as best as possible, tucking her communicator into a pouch she'd fashioned specifically for the purpose. Like so many times before, she had to trust that Maya could take care of herself. As she exited the Latimir building, she glanced around for the girl who'd given her the information.

Hearing footsteps behind them, Ty Lee suddenly stopped and glanced back the way they'd come.

"Hey, there's someone else!" she said to Noble Heart, then called out to Mia:

"We're over here!"
