Normally, this wouldn't have put him on edge, but given his run in with Gant, the cowboy cop was a bit more wary. Gant was taking everything with the same stride he always did. Never a good thing. Jake could hardly be blamed for his paranoia. And without Lana there to pretend to be unaffected for, Jake had no reason not to act with caution.
He approached the door, his knife initially in his hand. However, as he got closer, he slid the weapon back into his pocketing, telling himself that even if it was Gant, the worst possible thing he could do would be to stab him again. He put a hand on the doorknob but didn't quite turn it yet. Instead, he called out, "Who's there?"

He offered a smile. "Guess that'd be me. This is my apartment."

She made a point of not peering around him into the apartment. So instead, she introduced herself. "Mia Fey."

Mia Fey...he'd heard that name before. The question was, where? Still, she seemed nice enough. Reminded him a little bit of Lana, truth be told.

He wandered back into the room himself, stopping next to a cactus to introduce it. "This is Billy. Just me and him here for the time being."

She followed him into the room, shutting the door behind her. "Billy. Where did you find him?" She reached out to touch the spines gently. "I used to have a plant."

He sat and waited for Mia to do the same. "Where did you say you were from?"

She sat and smoothed her skirt, finding nothing to distract her. "Los Angeles. If that means anything to you."
