[ This is Aang, rushing outside to watch the fireworks. The slip of paper with the message to look at the sky at eight clutched tightly in his hands. He watches the show in wonder, laughing every so often. Care to join him~? ]

Zuko follows Aang out, wondering what's going on for him to look so excited, but the familiar crack and flare through the sky quickly catch his attention. He stops a few steps behind the younger boy, eyes glued to the sky as he watches.

Fireworks. They dance through the sky in multicolored sparks, and he can't tear his gaze away. A sharp pang grips his chest, flashes of time spent at summer festivals, the magnificent fireworks there, having fruit tarts with Mai fresh from the colorfully-dressed street vendors... He misses it, and he hadn't realized how much, but as he watches the bright flames shoot across the sky, it feels a little like home--but it's not, and that makes it so much worse.

Zuko's jaw tightens, his arms crossing over his chest to keep him warm, but he still can't help staring transfixed--and just a bit wistfully--at the lit-up sky.

He turned to face Zuko, grinning at first, and then frowning a little when the boy doesn't look happy at seeing such a beautiful display. Aang had rarely ever seen fireworks, because such things just weren't something you'd find in an airbender temples. Perhaps the small ones you lit and watched move around, but never the ones that flew into the sky. Of course, he'd seen them at the festival in the Fire Nation, but not since then.

Quickly deciding, he reached out and tugged the boys arm so he was standing more out of the door way. "Don't look so grumpy! They're pretty!"

Zuko blinked, glancing down at him for a moment and slowly pulling his arm away. Grumpy? He wasn't grumpy. Just...

He took another step, looking back up at the sky. "They are," he agreed softly, and the words were sincere. "I like fireworks." He'd even promised Haru some when he got his chip out.

As soon as Phoenix had discovered that there were fireworks on, he immediately left the apartment so that he could find a better place to see them from. This ended up being on top of the Latimir apartment building's roof, since he was still extremely tired after getting back from the hospital, and didn't want to go particularly far. It turned out that it wasn't too bad - the only downside was the lectures that he was expecting for it later. He had been told to take it easy, but...

There hadn't been fireworks in Discedo for an incredibly long time, and he was prepared to enjoy them - so he'd settled down with a blanket, just taking the time to relax. It's not as though this was particularly strenuous activity. The only thing Phoenix was in danger of up here was falling asleep.

To Miles' frustration, Phoenix was up on the roof faster than he could object to a line of faulty logic.

However, the prospect of fireworks in such a dreary world seemed almost too good to be true, even for the prosecutor. He grasped several pillows and a blanket before trudging upstairs to the roof. Of all the things for Phoenix to do--he was an idiot!

But nothing said 'love' like the two bowls of hot stew he also balanced in his hands as he managed to slide up the stairs and wander into the cold, crisp air.

The prosecutor walked as silently as possible and set the bowls gently on the ground in front of Phoenix, then covered his partner with the extra blanket and made a seat for himself next to him.

"You risk tearing your stitches and you don't even ask me to come with you. I'm hurt," he said lightly.

At least Phoenix being an idiot was nothing new - this certainly wasn't the first time, and definitely wouldn't be the last, that he'd do something this stupid. But after a week in hospital with very little to do but stare at the ceiling, he desperately needed the break.

And it looked like this little break of his was about to become that much more worthwhile.

When Miles took a seat, Phoenix slid an arm around his waist, resting his chin on his shoulder and smiling up at him. "Oh, I would have - except I knew you'd lecture me about coming up here. And you came up anyway, didn't you?" Phoenix had a suspicion that he'd come - even if there was the possibility that it was just to scold him. But instead, he found himself incredibly touched by the gesture - not that he'd admit it.

"You're a damn fool," he snapped in response. "You should have told me you wanted to come up here, I would have joined you and made sure it was safe." He fussed with the pillows so Phoenix could lean against them and leaned his head against his with his anger settling slowly.

Still, Miles settled down and very, very carefully held Phoenix in his arms.
"... As long as you're fine," he continued, voice softened considerably, "and will allow me to spend Christmas night with you."

Patchouli looks up from a window. She cares less about the fireworks themselves but wonder where they were from.

...They were very beautiful, however.

Chen will just be attentively gazing at the display for the duration. The only thing bad about this would be that she's not home.

Subaru wasn't sure what it was. Maybe it was a natural attraction to Seishirou's brand of magic. He didn't know that though, so at the sound of fireworks, he peeked out the window. He grinned at the sight, taking a moment to fix his hat and run up to the roof of Horton. He wasn't sure what was causing it... but maybe it had something to do with Christmas. Either way, he wanted to see the magic of the fireworks while he had the chance.
