Summary: After months of planning and deliberation, Gracia finally finishes the preparations for her thank-you picnic (with the help of a certain monk by day, chef by night) -- dedicated to her three best pals in Discedo!
the log:
Gracia had lost count of the days since the idea of holding a feast of sorts popped up in her head. Did it really matter how long it took? What was important was that it was here at last, after so many trials and tribulations. The town certainly didn't lag on events, though she inwardly hoped most of them were a little happier. Or at the very least, safer.
Shaking herself free from those dangerous trains of thought, the red-head rubbed her hands together and sat cross-legged by the fire Sorata and her made a few moments prior. When she recalled their teamwork (Though she shamefully admits he did most of the cooking -- she'll learn how to cook just as good as him one of these days!) in the cooking process, she couldn't help but smile to herself. They really did a fine job.
As her eyes focused on the gentle dance of the embers, Gracia recalled all the secrecy she had to resort to in order to execute her little plan. What she did was mischievous in some way, yes, but whoever said Gracia was a saint? She could be tricky when she wanted to be! And if doing so meant that she could properly express her gratitude to her best pals -- especially after all they've done and sacrificed for her sake -- then she would have no regrets as to making them worry.
...A little regret. She sighed and watched her breath form into mist in the cool winter air. Thank goodness Sorata convinced her to at least tell them she was alive again. Nothing was worth making her friends, she decided then. Not even this.
Glancing behind her, Gracia's smile grew wider as she caught sight of the feast in question. They had surrounded it by the fire, so the food wouldn't get cold. Spread out on a sheet of cloth, there laid a humble assortment of food she had specially inquired of every guest she invited. Two plates of onigiri (which she helped make the most of), an "apple pie" (which tugged at her curiosity since they baked it), and her very own creation of chilled tofu topped with dried bonito flakes (it wasn't hard to chill it, per se). They were lucky to have found cans of tofu and then of preserved fish, and so she decided to give Magoichi the tofu dish, which she not only topped with that, but with a few extra ingredients they managed to find as well. Since those three were the highlights of the picnic, they were kept in the center of all the other garnishes and side dishes Sorata managed to concoct. Standing up and brushing her knees free from dirt, Gracia gave the setting a once-over. The pure white background, the ethereal descent of the drops of snow from the cloudy sky, and of course, the soft crackle of the fire against the chilly yet calming silence of Discedo -- dying twice was worth every minute of this.
Facing the lake that gleamed in the soft glare of the sun, Gracia waited silently, hands behind her back, for the main event. At that moment, all that was in her head was if they managed to figure out where to go. It would ruin all of her effort if she had to go there and pick them up herself! With a deep breath, she closed her eyes and was content to just enjoy the peace, having the utmost faith that her pals will make it.
