Sorata was, all things considered, looking a bit smug.

Okay, Shinji hadn't shown up to his own birthday, and that was bothering him a little (even if it wasn't a surprise), but everything else had gone off smooth enough, and while some people might look at the meager "buffet" of food and go wow, that's kinda not much, Sorata was pretty proud of himself all around.

Despite having told everyone today was his birthday, he wasn't too involved in the party so far, happy to sit and watch everyone and be vaguely smug from on the the bar stools. Yep.

She read the communicator post a few days ago, and when it was time she didn't hesitate to show up to the little arrangement in the bar. Quickly she spotted Sorata as she entered the room. Alyx was a mess the last time she saw him. Now she looked much more lively. After she spotted him, she waved in his direction and grinned, "Happy Birthday."

Her words were a little bit slow and deliberate due to the language barrier they suffered from last time. However, her words were still very energetic. Pity she didn't have the means to get him anything.

He could understand that much, at least, and the context wasn't hard to figure out anyway-just as his reply of "Wow, thanks, great," wasn't terribly hard to understand, even given the thickness of his accent.

In the back of Sorata's head, he did notice she looked better than last time, with some relief. "It's not actually my birthday for a week, but this party's nice, huh?

Anemone was actually kind of nervous about coming to the party. She and Sorata weren't on the best of terms, and she wasn't sure how to fix that, if she even could. But she had a present for him, and she was going to give it to him and pretend to be happy and all smiles, at least so the party wouldn't be miserable.

Because there wasn't much to wrap presents with, Anemone just carried both Sorata and Shinji's presents in a shoulder bag. Nervously gripping the handles, Anemone walked in, looking around curiously for either of them. Once she spotted Sorata, she gave him a nervous smile, waving.

It had been a very, very long time since Umi had been able to properly decorate a cake...and while she was proud of the work, it could be exhausting, sometimes. She had found a chair near the buffet-setup where she could admire the good work she had done, and the work that everyone else had put in. Admittedly, she was excited -- the last time she had had a gathering like this had been back in March for her own birthday at the Gohl house...and that seemed like a hundred lifetimes ago.

For now she just watched, grateful for the chance to sit down for a minute, but it wouldn't be long before she was up and talking to people.

Chopper had chosen to quietly meander around the bar ever since he had first gotten there, trying to soak in the new environment. It was nice to not be tucked away in a hospital for seemingly endless hours, and though his trip outside had been enjoyable, new places were always fun to visit, though he was still a tiny bit nervous at being around so many people he didn't exactly know, until he noticed a familiar head of blue hair sitting in a chair not too far away from where he was now. He scuttled over to her, happy to find a familiar face ( ... )

To be honest...waiting for Hikaru made Umi a little antsy. What if everything didn't go right? What if she got lost on the way, or ran into a monster, or ran out of energy in the snow? This was Discedo -- there was no telling what could go wrong!

She was shaken from the small bout of worrying by a familiar voice, and the sight of the seemingly-excited reindeer made her smile broadly. "Chopper! Are you enjoying the party?"

Snapping out of his cake-watching enduced haze, Chopper turned to Umi again, returning the smile. "Uh-huh! It's really nice. I like it. And you?" He took a quick second to crane his head around as if looking for something, or someone. "Is your friend Hikaru here? I'd like to say happy birthday to her!"

The (secret?) third birthday guest paused outside the 'Lights for a smoke. Between the relaxing puffs of smoke, he listened to the vague murmur of voices and watched the artificial light spill from the windows. Nothing else had power anywhere near, making the bar seem like a weird beacon out of place in the wrecked city.

This time last year, he was sitting around half dead on this exact street. Leaning up against the bar in fact. The bar was an empty broken husk. Killer heat instead of out-of-season snowdrifts. He put out an absent hand to catch a few flakes... his favorite weather. Two birthdays couldn't get more different.

All in all, it was a good day. So he'd decided to put up with this damn party for awhile.

With a deep sigh, he flicked his cigarette butt to the ground and headed inside. The light blinded him for a couple seconds... after that, he tried to slink into some unoccupied corner of the room.

Still a secret. Sorata, still smug in his corner, noticed Shinjiro come in with no small amount of surprise, even disbelief. He'd joked about it, sure, but he had never really had any serious intention of dragging Shinjiro here against his will, or forcing him to stay. He'd honestly figured the guy would just skip the whole thing.

He debated for a moment or two-talk to him? Leave him alone? Which was more likely to annoy Shinjiro? Was he already annoyed? He didn't recognize these mixed feelings for shyness, but that's more or less what it amounted to-and a weird kind of happiness at seeing him there. He wanted Shinjiro to enjoy his birthday-was afraid of spoiling it.

Finally, he sidled up to his friend. "You should go look at the food..."

He settled against the wall, getting good and comfortable in his out of the way corner. Meanwhile he watched the other people milling around... not too many of them, at least. The 'Lights often got full to the point of ridiculous during parties. Honestly, those had been easier to handle. Working or planning one wasn't a damn thing like being a guest.

A 'secret,' one, depending on who else knew by now. He kinda didn't expect Sorata to keep his mouth shut--

--and mid-thought, he glanced up to see Sorata at his elbow. He scowled at him. Damn, that hadn't taken long. "What's the point of looking at food?"

That was both exactly the reaction Sorata had expected and a surprising one-seriously, you can't at least pretend not to be grumpy on your own birthday...?-but he shrugged and put his hand in his pocket, his bad one handing loose at his side. "Well, eat it, then. It's not like you're gonna play any games, right?"

And I made sure they made everything I could think of that you liked. But he didn't want to point that out, out loud. It seemed kinda crass.

The little demon walked in the doorway, knocking his heels against the floor before entering to make sure any remaining snow was left there, instead of tracking it inside. Cube's hands were gripped tightly around a basket, it's contents were covered by a sheet.

Looking around, he started to feel nervous and it was apparent in his face. He hadn't ever been invited to a birthday party as a guest. He peered over at the bar and then back at the people starting to group within the par. He decided to be a wall flower, holding onto his basket containing two secret surprises inside.

"What are you bein' so shy about?" Sorata pops up besides Cube sneakily-or, not, considering the guy is wearing bright orange and is really tall. Mingle, mingle. He's enjoying himself, although is probably a bit less hyper than might be expected.

"I-It's nothing. I've just... I've never been to one of these before..." He looked Sorata over once before holding his basket out. "I didn't see a table or anything for gifts... but..." The little demon's arms extended, holding his basket out to the taller man. "Happy Birthday, Sorata-san!" He gave a smile, hopeful that the contents were to his liking.

"Hey, kinda same here." Well, that wasn't true, but he'd never had one before-close enough. He blinked a little warily at the basket being extended to him, not quite sure-oh, was this another present? Man, he kinda sucked at this part, not used to getting or wanting- "Thank you! I'm sure I'll love it." Taking the basket and looking inside.

Celebrating Sorata's birthday wasn't exactly at the top of the list of things Sanji wanted to do with his time. Not that there was anything particularly bad about the guy, he just managed to constantly rub the cook the wrong way. But this party wasn't just for the Northern Lights manager after all. Besides, he had already promised Umi to help out with the preparations.

So here he was, hovering somewhere near the kitchen entrance, lazily scanning the room for any familiar faces or interesting strangers.

After giving Sorata his gift, Anemone felt rather odd lingering around. She wanted to go back to her apartment, where Dominic was, suffering with that cold she hadn't meant to give him, but she still hadn't found Shinji just yet. She had to give him his gift too.

Glancing around, Anemone searched the room for her beanie-clad friend, but her eyes landed on another familiar face. Sanji... Well, saying hello wouldn't hurt. She hurried over. "Hey there."

"Miss Anemone!"

Well, there was someone he definitely didn't mind seeing! They hadn't had much time to catch up since he got back in town so meeting Anemone here was a definite plus. Smiling brightly at her he raised a hand in greeting.

"Are you enjoying yourself, my lady?"

"Yeah..." she replied, though it came out more like an afterthought. Enjoying herself wasn't really on the plan anymore... it felt too strange just being here. Seeing Sanji was nice, though, and she was soon in front of him.

"It's a nice party... I'm sure Sorata and Shinji are having fun. How come you're hiding all the way over here?"
