Subaru followed behind the larger man, his black cloak moving around him, failing to hide the horrendous costume that he was subjected to wear for the past few days. It truly was degrading, especially for a boy, but Subaru could have cared less about his attire.

At Ice's words Subaru only gave a nod and moved up before Dio. Here he was, ready to offer his dignity and state of health if only to assure that no harm came to his tormented brother. He had already been through so much, he could tell by just looking at the scars on his body, the way his ribs became visible...Kamui had been starving himself, looking for him and Subaru could blame no one but himself for his twin's state.

With hands folded before him he looked up into the eyes of Dio and spoke softly.

"I ask of you to please spare my brother from your torments. In exchange I will put myself in his place."

Dio's face was obscured by shadows as he took a moment to regard the boy before him. Smaller than he was expecting, a gentle face...How strange a boy has managed to keep some sort of innocence, even if only a look, in a place like this.

He crossed his legs at the knee and rested his head on one hand. This felt oddly familiar to the vampire, except this time it wasn't a girl begging for the life of her baby. There were less zombies surrounding him, too. This was no time to think on that, though, and he turned his attention to the matter at hand.

Shifting slightly in his seat, he spoke finally. His tone of voice was very soft, his words gentle. All in all, it was a manner of speaking not expected of a man of his size and strength. It was a way to put his targets at ease, to catch them completely off guard.

"And how am I to know that you are an equal trade?" he asked quietly, turning his gaze to regard the wall.

It was almost as if the man was mocking him. Subaru paid no mind to the soft tone of Dio's voice, moving to answer the man's question. "We are twins, sir. We share the same blood and are nearly inseparable. I love him as much as he loves me...We are nearly one and the same, in mind and strength..."

He cast his eyes to the floor, unsure of what else to say without saying too much. After a brief moment of thought he looked back up at the shadowed figure of Dio.

Dio turned his head back towards Subaru. Now came the part he enjoyed so much, bringing their doubts to the forefronts of their minds. Some people enjoyed playing sports, he enjoyed causing psychological pain.

"Nearly the same? Just nearly?"

That made him stop, his heart beating just a bit faster. He couldn't lose this, he couldn't let these people touch Kamui ever again-

"...Yes. No two people can be exactly a like. We have our differences." He didn't mean to speak sarcastically, for it was truth, but it wouldn't have been hard to take it as such.

That hesitation...The seed of doubt was planted. The joy of such a thing didn't show on his face, however.

"And do you know what these differences are, precisely?"

"..." His mouth opened to speak, but he stopped himself again. Their differences...How many were there? Granted there were physical differences, like the color of their eyes...Kamui always had slightly wilder hair than he did...

He was much more spirited as well, more impulsive. Sometimes it amused Subaru and sometimes it worried him beyond words...did he get himself into trouble, was he hurt, was he lost...Kamui's pride to figure things out for himself worried Subaru, but he knew that he would never intentionally let himself be hurt if just to keep his pride intact...

He shook his head, moving back into the conversation. "They are just the ways we both carry ourselves...He is more...impulsive than I..." He looked away again, a small frown tugging at his lips.

A low, gentle laugh echoed from the near darkness. In those shadows, Seishirou lingered, his expression cold despite his smile. One would have to squint heavily to catch even the outline of his tall frame, though the ominous sound conveyed his presence quite well. Oh yes, he would enjoy this game.

Though he considered Kamui a better target. This one, for all his gentle, unruffled manners, could break under pain or twisted schemes, perhaps. Too easy, and with such grace--nothing like the fall of his own Subaru. He disliked the sight of that familiar face with a stranger's mind behind those eyes.

It made him wish to break it. Then, perhaps, he would be a more pleasing object.

Dio turned at the laugh and gave a low chuckle of his own. With a slightly dismissive wave, he shifted once again, sitting fully upright.

"More impulsive? Hm, perhaps you are the better deal, then...More easily controlled that way," Dio mused, rising out of his seat. He crossed his arms over his chest and cocked his head to the side, "hm...I may have to think more on this."

He stood in front of Subaru now, looking down on him.

Although he didn't turn to study the darkness from which the laugh came, he knew who it was. A flicker of red moved in his mind at knowing that Seishirou was here, but he knew better than to show such careless emotions. A time and a place for everything...

Subaru stared down at the ground, head bowed. He was aware of Dio looking down on him, but made no motion to move out from under it.

With easy, silent steps, Seishirou melted out of the darkness and came to stand near Dio. His mis-matched eyes regarded the submissive boy. Though more rational, he was foolish in the same manner as his own Subaru. Sacrificial. Wasting himself easily. An odd sensation tightened his throat--anger, perhaps? He rarely suffered even that generic deep emotion.

Curious.

"You should test his resolve. Words are words, after all.."

"Mm, I do believe you are correct...Tell me, why should your words mean anything at all?"

Dio moved briefly back to the spot he'd been sitting and picked up a book. He opened it, his back to Subaru. He read for a few moments, then promptly shut the book with a loud thump. Wordlessly, he summoned his Stand and stopped time, ending up behind Subaru now. To anyone who didn't know what Dio's power truly was, it just looked like he teleported. The World aimed a sound blow in between the boy's shoulder blades as time resumed.

"Your strength is far more important than your words."

If he were at his full potential the situation may have been different; but he fell to the ground, pain running into the spot where he had been punched. He bit his lip, refusing to make a sound, moving onto his knees. Slowly, he stood back up, popping his neck quietly and turned back around to Dio, his cloak floating around his feet. He ignored the stinging in between his shoulder blades.

"...Then test me to be sure that my words ring true."

Ice moved just a bit, raising his arm as if in protest. He was all too familiar with this initiation practice of his master's...and he felt like it was wasted on a boy so like Subaru. Why waste time on something like this? Simply make the deal and be done with it. Slavery was, after all, better than stabs to one's dignity...

"Lord Dio...perhaps you should simply accept the agreement. I trust this one to remain true to his word. And even if he does not...you have your means to ensure his loyalty, sir...," Ice spoke, his words becoming quieter at the end.

He could hardly believe what he, himself, was suggesting, but...maybe it was for the best. Subaru was not like Lilith, after all...

He could sneer at the boy's noble silence. Of course. But no, he kept his face an impassive, cruelly smiling mask while Subaru climbed to his feet and spoke those oh-so-brave words. So he bore the pain of a simple blow. He must consider that quite impressive. It certainly was not.

Though Ice's.. compassion surprised him enough to silence him into considering it. Of course, Dio was likely to listen to his entreaty, since he did not often make them. He could hardly agree with him, however. Though Subaru may remain true to his word--where was the amusement if they limited his suffering?

"He offers to be tested of his own will.."

Dio was vaguely amused. He had barely used a portion of The World's strength with that blow and now Subaru must feel as though he could take more of the same...Putting the pressure on would be more fun. He would, of course, in the end accept the agreement, but tormenting him now was so much more fun.

He turned to Ice, looking the slightest bit irritated.

"Silence. Seishirou is correct: Subaru offers to be tested...so test him I will."

He stepped up to Subaru now, looking down on him. Again he stopped time, but this time the blow he wanted to connect was drawn with his own fist. He aimed the strike at Subaru's stomach, wanting to knock the wind from him.

"You must think yourself strong, standing up for your twin..."
