Shyna skids to a stop expertly-- the first time she tried that stunt, she flew clear over three cots and crashed into one of the folding kinds, which nearly slammed shut-- but now she's familiar enough with the layout of the clinic to move nimbly around it. When she hears the doctor's voice, she beams.

"Doctor Octavius!" The girl doesn't look like she is injured, but her hat looks a little worse for wear, and she's sporting a few scratches on her face and clothes-- they're small scratches, for most, but on someone as slight as Shyna, the tears look uncomfortably large. Still, she's in bright spirits, and as she trots over to Otto, she doesn't seem to be bothered.

"I woke up at the wharf," she announces, plopping onto a cot, "And then horrible bat things were chasing me into a tower and then I had to stay there overnight and then Miss Sakura decided to offer her assistance and I managed to get down from there, after all." A pause, for breath. "I didn't know Discedo had a wharf, did you?"

Up til' now, all she knew about the lake was that it was sealed off, but she's never gone to explore until now. Though 'explore' is a bit of a misleading term for 'waking up somewhere she doesn't remember traveling to.'

In any normal setting, cuts could be ignored in general, even at that size. In a place as filthy as Discedo, it's probably better to examine her just in case, clean her up, and put a few good bandages. Better than risking any potential infection.

Still, he smiles back, seemingly very interested in what she has to stay.

Rosie wanted kids someday after his fusion experiment was naturally going to be a success.

"A wharf? Well, I believe I may have heard of it, but I haven't seen it myself." Couldn't be in very good condition, he's willing to guess, but sightseeing is but one of the luxuries he's missing out on. He's glad Shyna enjoyed exploration.

"Those two days missing seem to have put you in a bit of a fix. Glad you're reasonably whole." He grins. "Hold still a moment, would you? But go on; tell me what the wharf was like."

Peroxide; he can't use too much, due to lack of supplies. He gets the bottle and a bit of cloth, pulling up a seat next to Shyna.

As Otto sits down next to her, Shyna takes off her hat-- although the way the ears seem to respond to her every mood and expression as though they were part of her body, it's just another piece of clothing when she takes it off, wings going limp and drooping drunkenly over the brim. The back looks like its been gnawed on. There's a matching line of toothmarks on the back of Shyna's head, scabby with dried blood but otherwise fine.

The girl seems to have little sense for the delicateness of her body. If it weren't for her stockings, the bruises on her knees might be seen too. She's gotten thinner since she started her stay at Discedo, but then, there's not much here for a growing girl. Which is what she is, now, babblings about Messengers of Justice and restoring computer systems aside.

"Yeah, but I got out fine!" She holds obediently still for whatever treatment is about to be inflicted on her, though she keeps chatting all the while. Doctor Octavius reminds her of Bug, a little, and it's nice to have someone like that here.

"I guess it could have been pretty a long time ago, but the smell was horrible. It was pukey!" She's been picking up a few words from her new friends. "And there were a lot of big buildings around, so it was hard to see anything-- but when I was looking from the window in the tower, I could see the water." She cranes her neck around abruptly, restless.

"The fence is gone now, though," she says, strangely thoughtful. "Do you think that's a good thing?"

...Something bit her head. Well, shouldn't be too much of a surprise in this place, but he still raises his brow as if perplexed by it. She certainly doesn't seem bothered at all, though. Otto still sets to work, cleaning off any dried blood. It's already scabbed over just fine, at least.

"Pukey, you say? That's a strong word," he comments with a faint smirk. Still, he can imagine. It could probably smell terrible out there.

Like rotten fish. Lovely.

Otto presses a couple of band-aids to Shyna's face -- interesting ones with some kind of a kitten on it -- then pauses. The fence is gone.

"It could be. Perhaps whatever was dangerous about it is gone now. Hard to say until we test it for ourselves."

Shyna's had enemies throwing their heads at her and others lifting their skirts to eject bombs at her. Nothing surprises her after that. One of her arms still has to have ointment applied to heal its burns, but it's nearly gone now, and hidden under her coat in any case.

"Like dead fish everywhere," Shyna declares, unknowingly echoing Otto's thoughts. "Owww--" She manages, barely, not to squirm, and isn't subtle about the loud huff of relief when Otto seems to be done.

"Was there something in there?" She blinks, visions of demonic, girl-headed flying fishes swimming (no pun intended) to the front of her mind. Eugh. The smell was certainly right for it, all right. "It's good to have more water though, isn't it? Or is it acid too?" She sounds dubious about the last.

There's a sympathetic smile and a murmur of apology; he understands. Children have no favor towards being forced to sit still while examined and cared for like this. Terribly boring and a bit painful, he's sure.

But it's over and done with. He gives a gentle pat to her head before he relaxes in his chair again.

"I believe it was contaminated for awhile," Otto responds about the lake. "Perhaps with monsters. But I don't know if the contamination is gone now or not. Worth for someone to check, I'm sure."

And someone will.

"See anything else interesting?"

Shyna doesn't immediately put the hat on, but she sets it on her lap, tugging her coat's zipper down a bit... and Surosa squirms out. It's a strange little doll that Otto's seen before; Shyna calls it a 'parasite', but all it seems to be is a little mannequin that shares its owner's split red and blue colors. It waves at Otto while Shyna speaks.

"Like that pH thing Alphonse--" She still doesn't call either of the Elrics by their shorter appellations. "--was doing with the soil?" She can be sharp, sometimes. She's looking particularly thoughtful now, but the expression melts away as she grins.

"No, but I can go back and take a look now that I know how to get back!"

The doll has been a strange feature, but he doesn't mind it. There's a half-smile from the scientist before he returns the wave. Shyna is quite unique from what he can tell, and in several ways; on a personal and even scientific level, he'd like to get to know her.

"Yes, that would be it. Checking the acidic levels to be sure that we don't poison ourselves. Supposedly, Discedo used to have acidic rain as well." Lovely town, Discedo.

Otto sighs, but he feels he ought to humor Shyna. "So long as you aren't on your own. Perhaps you could go see and come back to tell me what's going on?"

Surosa plops onto the edge of the hat, nearly tipping off as the brim sags. It catches the edge before it can tumble to the floor, and its with no little exertion that it squirms back onto Shyna's lap. She doesn't seem to notice.

The bright ruby eyes that peer at Otto read as anything but normal, but then, this is Discedo. Shyna's just one of a multitude. "I'll ask Alphonse to go with me," she declares, with the same childlike conviction she uses to speak of... nearly everything. "I'd bet he'd like to take a look. And I'll tell you everything!

Anything but normal, but Otto keeps in mind that he's done battle with a man with spider powers, and he himself has metallic arms bonded to his body. By now, he's adjusted to Shyna, but completely recognizes how unique she is.

In all manners, really.

Alphonse is very responsible and an excellent scientist. That satisfies Otto. He nods and he slowly gets to his feet.

"And before you head off into trouble again..." He gives her a wry look before checking behind a shelf, then nods. "Ness left this behind. A bit small for him, I suppose, but it should suit you fine."

It's just a plain wooden bat, nothing special. But he'd really rather Shyna wasn't unarmed.

Shyna has the grace to look sheepish; if her legs were long enough, her toes would be digging a hole into the floor. "If I didn't have my chip..." She lifts Surosa, despite the doll's protests, and stuffs it back into her coat. At the bat offered to her, she blinks.

And, slowly, smiles. It's a strange thing to do, at the sight of something proffered to be a weapon, but Shyna is Shyna, and the pleasure of a gift is still something she's rarely experienced.

"Thank you, Doctor Octavius!" She beams. And then.

"... Er... what is it, exactly?"

"Oh, I know. If our chips were not in, then you and I both would be better off," Otto assures.

He would be more mobile. Possibly vulnerable to the arms, but with the inhibitor chip, he should be fine.

Should be.

"Never seen a baseball bat," he remarks wryly. "No wonder; you're holding it upside-down, Shyna."

Otto adjusts her grip appropriately to the wooden bat.

"People use this in sports. Games. Perhaps Ness would like to show you it sometime. It seems to be a favorite game of his, and I'm sure other children would enjoy learning as well. However, this bat will also provide you some protection. Use it as a weapon. I could demonstrate a little, if you'd like, but it's a little small for me."

The girl absorbs the explanation with rapt attention, nodding vigorously-- by now, even with her hat in her lap, it's easy to imagine its faux wings flapping along with the motion of her head. When Otto adjusts her grip, she obeys immediately, deftly grasping the bat and trying out a swing or two. Nevermind that Dr. Octavius is rather close; she looks horribly intrigued.

"A demonstration won't be necessary," she decides, beaming. "I think I get it!" At least, the thwacking-monsters-with-it part. The whole fact that there's a game attached to this thing doesn't really register for her-- whatever it is, it's hers now.

"Are you sure it's okay, doctor?" She seems a little anxious, since this technically isn't hers.

Although Otto's hardly... fast, he has enough sense to move himself out of the way of Shyna's practice swings. She's eager, and it shows; he doesn't want to be in the path of that. Eagerness. So to speak.

"Looks like you have it about right," Otto comments. "And it's quite all right. Should Ness happen to be looking for it, I'll simply inform him that you're just borrowing it. Until we can get that chip of yours out. Besides, it's better for you to be a little safer this way; I'm sure he'd agree."

Shyna nods happily. The bat feels good in her hand; it's just the right weight for her to carry, but it's heavy enough to land a solid blow, should she need it.

"Thanks, Dr. Octavius! I'll tell him thanks if I see him." The band-aids on her cheek crinkle as she grins broadly at the doctor. The girl slides off the edge of the cot, feet wiggling in mid-air for a moment before she slips all the way off and manages to land solidly on her feet. "Kanetsugu said he was going to help me find food," she announces, then. "So I'm going to go meet him outside the high school."

She seems quite pleased to have a gift, that's for sure. The doctor provides a wide smile and gently pats her shoulder.

"Best of luck on your trip, then. Make good use of that bat, won't you?"

It's not a favorable idea to let a child run around outside with monsters.

But he knows, if he had a choice, he wouldn't stay cooped up in the clinic either.

"Come back before it gets too dark, Shyna."
