Who: Otto Octavius & whoever stops by in the clinic. [OPEN]
Where: Clinic at the high school.
When: During the day, Thursday.
Rating: PG-13, just to be safe.
Summary: Many feel trapped within the town of Discedo -- although Otto can safely say, he feels trapped after walking about twenty feet.
the log: (
two days gone is better than all of them )
Others, like Otto, are more permanent guests, though not all are so because of enforced confinement.
A familiar patter of tiny feet on concrete resounds in the hallway outside the clinic, audible to those who keep an ear out for such things. The next moment, with a loud thud, the doors slam open as Shyna barrels through them like a football spinning towards the endzone. She's so small that it's the only way she can get them open in a hurry, and poor luck to whoever's unfortunate enough to be on the other side ( ... )

Fortunately, the person coming in is very tiny. And familiar.
"Welcome back," he greets her, fairly surprised.
Otto is slowly but surely making his way to her; he's in no rush, and even if he didn't have his burden, Shyna's still fairly quick. Children and all.
"You're not injured, I hope."
Reply
"Doctor Octavius!" The girl doesn't look like she is injured, but her hat looks a little worse for wear, and she's sporting a few scratches on her face and clothes-- they're small scratches, for most, but on someone as slight as Shyna, the tears look uncomfortably large. Still, she's in bright spirits, and as she trots over to Otto, she doesn't seem to be bothered.
"I woke up at the wharf," she announces, plopping onto a cot, "And then horrible bat things were chasing me into a tower and then I had to stay there overnight and then Miss Sakura decided to offer her assistance and I managed to get down from there, after all." A pause, for breath. "I didn't know Discedo had a wharf, did you ( ... )

Still, he smiles back, seemingly very interested in what she has to stay.
Rosie wanted kids someday after his fusion experiment was naturally going to be a success.
"A wharf? Well, I believe I may have heard of it, but I haven't seen it myself." Couldn't be in very good condition, he's willing to guess, but sightseeing is but one of the luxuries he's missing out on. He's glad Shyna enjoyed exploration.
"Those two days missing seem to have put you in a bit of a fix. Glad you're reasonably whole." He grins. "Hold still a moment, would you? But go on; tell me what the wharf was like."
Peroxide; he can't use too much, due to lack of supplies. He gets the bottle and a bit of cloth, pulling up a seat next to Shyna.

"Pukey, you say? That's a strong word," he comments with a faint smirk. Still, he can imagine. It could probably smell terrible out there.
Like rotten fish. Lovely.
Otto presses a couple of band-aids to Shyna's face -- interesting ones with some kind of a kitten on it -- then pauses. The fence is gone.
"It could be. Perhaps whatever was dangerous about it is gone now. Hard to say until we test it for ourselves."
Reply
"Like dead fish everywhere," Shyna declares, unknowingly echoing Otto's thoughts. "Owww--" She manages, barely, not to squirm, and isn't subtle about the loud huff of relief when Otto seems to be done.
"Was there something in there?" She blinks, visions of demonic, girl-headed flying fishes swimming (no pun intended) to the front of her mind. Eugh. The smell was certainly right for it, all right. "It's good to have more water though, isn't it? Or is it acid too?" She sounds dubious about the last.

But it's over and done with. He gives a gentle pat to her head before he relaxes in his chair again.
"I believe it was contaminated for awhile," Otto responds about the lake. "Perhaps with monsters. But I don't know if the contamination is gone now or not. Worth for someone to check, I'm sure."
And someone will.
"See anything else interesting?"

"Like that pH thing Alphonse--" She still doesn't call either of the Elrics by their shorter appellations. "--was doing with the soil?" She can be sharp, sometimes. She's looking particularly thoughtful now, but the expression melts away as she grins.
"No, but I can go back and take a look now that I know how to get back!"
Reply
"Yes, that would be it. Checking the acidic levels to be sure that we don't poison ourselves. Supposedly, Discedo used to have acidic rain as well." Lovely town, Discedo.
Otto sighs, but he feels he ought to humor Shyna. "So long as you aren't on your own. Perhaps you could go see and come back to tell me what's going on?"

The bright ruby eyes that peer at Otto read as anything but normal, but then, this is Discedo. Shyna's just one of a multitude. "I'll ask Alphonse to go with me," she declares, with the same childlike conviction she uses to speak of... nearly everything. "I'd bet he'd like to take a look. And I'll tell you everything!

In all manners, really.
Alphonse is very responsible and an excellent scientist. That satisfies Otto. He nods and he slowly gets to his feet.
"And before you head off into trouble again..." He gives her a wry look before checking behind a shelf, then nods. "Ness left this behind. A bit small for him, I suppose, but it should suit you fine."
It's just a plain wooden bat, nothing special. But he'd really rather Shyna wasn't unarmed.

And, slowly, smiles. It's a strange thing to do, at the sight of something proffered to be a weapon, but Shyna is Shyna, and the pleasure of a gift is still something she's rarely experienced.
"Thank you, Doctor Octavius!" She beams. And then.
"... Er... what is it, exactly?"

He would be more mobile. Possibly vulnerable to the arms, but with the inhibitor chip, he should be fine.
Should be.
"Never seen a baseball bat," he remarks wryly. "No wonder; you're holding it upside-down, Shyna."
Otto adjusts her grip appropriately to the wooden bat.
"People use this in sports. Games. Perhaps Ness would like to show you it sometime. It seems to be a favorite game of his, and I'm sure other children would enjoy learning as well. However, this bat will also provide you some protection. Use it as a weapon. I could demonstrate a little, if you'd like, but it's a little small for me."
Reply
"A demonstration won't be necessary," she decides, beaming. "I think I get it!" At least, the thwacking-monsters-with-it part. The whole fact that there's a game attached to this thing doesn't really register for her-- whatever it is, it's hers now.
"Are you sure it's okay, doctor?" She seems a little anxious, since this technically isn't hers.
Reply
"Looks like you have it about right," Otto comments. "And it's quite all right. Should Ness happen to be looking for it, I'll simply inform him that you're just borrowing it. Until we can get that chip of yours out. Besides, it's better for you to be a little safer this way; I'm sure he'd agree."
