The high school was always tremendously dark at night, but this never seemed to bother Prince. Other than the fact that he was always in the classroom that he and Linda shared, the little prince tended to wind up on all kinds of adventures, and was not easily frightened. By the time Jackie arrived, Prince was already wearing his brave face.

"Hey hey you're and Jackie! We were wondering what you looked like! We already met Jenny, but you are SO COOL! How do you do that shadowy neat thing and make your eyes glow like that?! We think that is so-"

Jenny and Jackie would be forced to deal with Prince's excited ramblings until they reached the prison, where he abruptly fell silent, begging with his eyes to be carried by Jackie. The building felt scary to Prince and when he saw Chris, he could only react with an expression that lacked the excitement and bravery he once displayed.

Chii had been sitting just outside of the cell, talking to Walter, and bringing him food and gifts from time to time, easily keeping him company. He often told her it was okay to go, and that he would just like to see her once in a while, but for the first few days, she wanted to stay.

Upon hearing voices, she looked up. "Jenny! Jackie!" There was a small one with them, but she smiled still, getting up and brushing off her dress. "Chii happy to see friends!" She turned to the prison and smiled to Walter. "Friends come to see Walter. Chii knew."

Whatever would make her happy, of course. There's largely a part of him that's afraid to feel so much. Afraid of so much emotion at once. Afraid of how it might feel if this does not last. Or a charade.

Faintly, he smiles at Chii before looking up towards the others. He's honestly a bit mystified that they really do come to see him. He might always wait for the day that they don't.

For now, this is fine.

"You're smarter than I am," he says to the persocom.

He wasn't sure if he wanted to smile or cry. Or maybe scream and rip through the bars.

No. Walter said to wait. Why he was listening to a crazy doctor hobo killer was beyond him, but then, he'd decided long ago not to try to overexamine everything he thought.

He scooped up Prince to bring him closer to Walter, and passed one of the blankets through the bars. The other he offered to Chii. If both of them were staying here, they could at least use something to sleep on.

As afraid as Prince was upon arrival, he soon forgot those feelings once he recognized Chii's voice. She was pretty and looked kind, just the way Prince had imagined, and he smiled as Jenny walked over to her.

"Chii! Chii! We are Prince! Hello!"

"You're smarter than I am."

That voice. Prince wiggled around in Jackie's grip when he picked him up, when he heard it. That was Walter. As Jackie brought him closer to the cell, Prince could hardly contain himself.

"Walter Walter Walter!!"

Jackie brought Prince to the bars and he quieted instantly. The man looked a mess, tired, and his eyes had something sad in them. The small boy was unsure whether or not Walter was always like this or the people who locked him up had caused it. And what would Walter think of his inhuman appearance? Prince hopped onto the bars and stood there, unsure of what to say.
