WHERE: Residential district/The Graveyard
WHAT: Shoelaces. Yes, shoelaces. They're red (but there's an old mustard stain on it ew) and poking out of a poor guy's coffin that was lifted out of the dirt part-way during a quake months ago. The coffin itself is strangely empty of a body... but there's a little note left inside.
WHAT IT SAYS:
When you died
They buried you here
However they forgot to bury you with your shoes
I’m sure your feet must be rotten and cold
So I went to look for them
I could only find the laces
They don’t look good on you
I always thought they were on the verge of tacky
But aren’t you happy anyway?
Also I returned your library books for you
They won’t be happy that you wrote all over them
Maybe if you weren’t such a fucking cheapskate
Or if you took me on a halfway decent date for once
Don’t get so mad because you know it’s true
Although if you're mad at this I guess that means you’re actually alive

WHO: Solid Snake
WHERE: Seaport/boathouse
WHAT: A few reports long since ripped and damaged by water and time, all to do with the business of fish in Discedo. They all follow the same general subject and theme of exports and contamination in the fish, though a piece of report on the bottom of the pile goes briefly goes over the Discedo fish market closing down as a result.
WHAT ONE PIECE OF REPORT SAYS:
…increasing suspicion of contamination. More and more lately, countless people around the world have fallen victim to a strange illness. It is not certain whether the people were already ill before becoming infected, however it is certain at this point that the virus is fatal. The source of the deadly virus has been traced back to fish, local only to Discedo’s grand lake. Discedo, with it’s rich history in fishing, has taken a crippling blow as they provide a large percentage of fish in exports to the rest of the world, due to their unique appearance but delicious flavor. And now story time. Yay yay yay story time. What's the point of story time? To convey plot of Discedo that cannot be conveyed otherwise. Like a flashback. Or something. Not necessary to read, but it may help with understanding the nature of Discedo's past a little more.
Back in the good old days, before the subway had closed down...
Two men stood on the subway platform, waiting.
“Come here often?” This one man said to the other man beside him, despite not knowing him or his name.
“Not really. I’m only here because I need to get to the next town.”
“What for?”
“To see my relatives.”
“Ah, that’s nice.”
Surprisingly, the other man scoffed. “Back in the good ol’ days, relatives saw each other much more often. Not just here or there or every so then, or maybe that often? If you catch my drift.”
“Sort of…”
“How long has it been? At least a few years. My little niece, Eckel, must be a lovely young woman by now. Why, back in the good ol’ days-”
“How old and good are we talking about here, mister…?”
“Oliver.”
“Oliver?”
“Yes, you twat.”
“Hey… no need to get nasty about it.”
“Urgh.”
“Or to make nasty sounds like that.”
“I feel sick…” It was then that both men felt a sense of dread. Of what? They did not know it then.
