Q had been trying desperately to reverse the damage, to fix things, but it was all she could do to keep Discedo supplied. And now... now they had arrived. Holden would have called it checkmate, she was certain.
Her fingers were flying over a keyboard in the main computer room when the door came crashing down abruptly. Spinning around she jumped back against the desk. It couldn't-
"Well, well, look what we have here!" Oh, but it could. Raising his arms in a theatrical shrug Jay stepped into the room. "And after I warned you so kindly."
...It seemed time had run out. "... ... ...What have you done with Knowlton?" The words were brave, but she could hardly keep a waver out of her voice. This was the time when one found what they were truly made of, yes? Hopefully she wouldn't disappointed. Least of all herself.
Lowering his arms Jay stepped further forward into the room, hand going to his pocket. "Ask what he did to himself," he replied easily enough. No sympathy. Q's hands clenched behind her at that. "...I see." The worst case scenario had appeared. "So this is it."
All the trials, her work, Discedo... She raised her head slightly. No need to cower. She'd faced Holden hadn't she? Far more terrifying than this man. "Do you expect to get away with this?"
Pulling a gun from his pocket, Jay admired it for a moment. "Heh... Something like that, yeah." He took aim. "Any last words?"
A gun. How... anti-climatic. Her heart raced nonetheless though. Who wasn't afraid of their own death? Time, if she just- "...What will you do with Lolita?" Behind her back one of her fingers slowly pressed the Enter key. A light on the monitor turned on and began to slowly blink.
Jay didn't appear to notice. "My, that's nosy of you. Are you concerned for her, or me?" A small bout of consideration crossed his face. "Buying time, are we?" He thumbed the safety off his weapon. "Well. It won't do you any good. I mean it this time. Last words? I'm a sucker for them."
Stepping away from the computer Q tried to hide the trembling of her own hands. If she had to go she'd like it to be with dignity. "You'll have to excuse me... if I refrain. I don't believe in needless dramatics."
Frowning at the insult Jay pulled the trigger. Once. Twice. Closing the distance between them he delivered a final shot as Q's body collapsed to the floor.
"Now, that's too bad."
