A little bit of plot!

Hey, East Group! Doesn't your life just suck right now? Bugs, cougars, bears, splinters, and no fun to be had at all? Well, we've got some good news for you: Life is about to get a little more exciting!

Not that that means better.

Tonight, you might hear some gunshots from the city: shots not directed at you for once. If you go to investigate, you'll see nothing, no fighting or conflict. But they were shooting at something, right? Monday and Tuesday, things will take a turn for the creepy for you camping folk. While going around looking for food (or whatever else), there's a high chance you'll find a corpse. Or two. Or three. There is no super obvious sign of death on any of them, and they're also all missing their skin. All of it. There are men and women, and they are skinned and their faces are distorted and terrified.

Which is lovely.

If that wasn't enough to make you want to get the hell out of dodge, on Monday, the group will be approached by people from the city-heavily armed people-and told to leave. No conversation, no questions: just "It's dangerous here. Get out." And then they'll threaten to shoot you. It's probably best to obey, so get ready to clear out. If you stay another night, the same will happen on Tuesday: more skinned corpses.

It will take about a week to get back to Discedo, so happy walking!

Meanwhile, something else is going down. On the 26th (Tuesday), some bright and shiny objects will appear in Spero, Dissimulo, and Discedo: In Dissimulo on the intersection of Main and Harmony, in Spero on the corner of Windsor and Third, and in Discedo, two locations: Gohl & Lander and Liddel & Brebo. Each object is roughly the size and shape of a phone booth, but made of a sleek looking material. It can hold only one person at a time, and makes a faint humming sound if you're close enough.

Spray-painted all around all four of them are smiley faces, but that's all the explanation you're getting from whoever put them there.

What they are is teleporters.

Each teleporter connects to one another: The Spero one to the Gohl one, the Liddel one to the Dissimulo one. So, to get from Dissimulo to Spero, you would have to use all four teleporters. They are not one-way: you can use one to hop back and forth multiple times.

There are a couple of catches, of course. First, whenever you ride one, you get hit by intense nausea. Some people might be physically ill, others will just feel awful. It fades on its own after about half an hour, but it's not pleasant. Second, the teleporters need a recharge period after every use of about fifteen minutes. During this time, you can't use it, either to leave or arrive. For example, if someone uses the Spero teleporter to get to Discedo, for the next fifteen minutes, no one else can use the Discedo teleporter to go to Spero, or the Spero teleporter to go to Discedo. These things really aren't designed for mass transit! A red light will go on when the teleporter is in "recharge" mode, and turn off when it's ready for the next trip.

Aside from extreme nausea, there are no ill effects to the teleporters, and even with the delay in using them, it shouldn't be that hard to go where you want to go: the trip itself takes less than a minute. Animals and the like can't be taken, and only small objects (what you're wearing/carrying) can be transported: no shoving a bike in there, for example.

From Tuesday on, the teleporters will be functioning and letting everyone in Discedo, Dissimulo, and Spero travel around to their heart's content… well, as soon as someone figures out that's what they are. But clearly the smiley faces mean they're safe, right?

Finally, in all locations, the shadow creatures are still watching you. They still will vanish rather than approach. The only difference is that they're in the corner of your eyes all the friggen time now.
