Ghost plot (update)

Apr 18, 2010 16:35

Hey, remember that ghost plot we were talking about? It starts today, as many of you already know (and are acting upon, thank you!). And we said we'd give you information on how to stop it...

But first, storytime!

Scientists' POV (Where is Green?):

"Where could she have gone?" Lolita wondered aloud, her voice unwilling to betray the strange look of sheer fright on her face.

"She might not last without her medication," Holden piped in, just shy of sounding unsympathetic.

Grendel could not decide what to do, watching the two of them. She knew what Holden was doing behind Lolita's back, messing with Green's mental stability and health when Lolita couldn't be there. Intentionally causing a decline, so Lolita would be busier tending to Green than to these otherworldly people. It was sabotage, like they had planned to do from the beginning when they first arrived. And maybe over time, Holden had created his own personal experiment on Green to entertain him on the side. Grendel and Holden were from the same city, after all. But she was torn apart by her obligations over her impulse to stop this. Holden had gone too far.

"Suddenly you have feelings for these lost little girls, Grendel? That's surprising." she could already hear him say.

So, she flipped a coin. Tails. It decided for her.

It was a lethal computer virus that they had kept as a backup plan, to ruin Lolita and Green's little experiment from the inside out if all else failed. Grendel planted it into Holden's computer, so he couldn't pursue his own experiments any longer. All his data would be gone, including his data on Green and Discedo. The data they had collected on Discedo's technology. But Holden's computer was also connected to that machine.

The virus managed to leak into the machine they used to bring people in, the machine which bypassed the rules of time, space and reality. There must have been a hole somewhere that leaked it, Grendel thinks in retrospect. Suddenly the machine just started to malfunction again.

And into the network that connected to all the communicators, there was a scream.

Okay, okay, now that you know the why, let's get into the how.

On April 22nd, Q (exaudio) is going to make a post asking for help from the community. She has made a trap. But it's up to YOU to activate it. She will provide six (6) devices, dropped at a specific location. Four (4) of them will create an electromagnetic cage when arranged in a square, each device no further than 100 meters from each other.

But here's the trick:

For the cage to activate correctly, each of the four devices must be turned on roughly at the same time. The margin of error? 10 seconds.

What does this mean? Well, there will need to be a person at each device, all four working together in sync to activate the cage. And you only get one chance. So don't mess it up, guys. But a cage is only good if it's trapping something, right?

Before the devices are activated, the ghost is going to need to be lured inside their radius. And since it's residing in the network... You're going to have to lure it into one communicator. That's right. Someone is going to have to volunteer to be bait. And bait very rarely gets away from its catch unscathed.

Whoever decides to be "bait," will be given the fifth device, the key to the operation. It will be inserted into the "bait"'s communicator (which the "bait" itself has to do, of course, only the person that owns the communicator can use it!), and will force the ghost into it. Then, when the four cage points are activated, the ghost will be pulled out from the communicator and trapped within the radius.

And here comes the third part of the plan: Catching the ghost.

The four caging devices will only hold for one hour. The four people that activated the cage will need to stay in place, so the ghost doesn't get away. The "bait" is going to need some help, if they aren't already dead. So this is where the sixth and final device comes into play; the catch.

It's a rather boxlike object, with one switch like the footpedal on a garbage can. This switch will open the box and attempt to suck the ghost in. And like everything else in this plan, there's one stipulation: the ghost is going to need to be worn out.

Now that it's out in the physical world (albeit confined to one area), it's not a happy ghost. It's going to try and destroy anything in it's reach, including the catch. So if you activate it right from the get-go, you're just going to end up with scrap-metal getting spit out of the cage. So anyone capable is encouraged to volunteer to try and beat the ghost into submission. Once the ghost is tired out enough, the catch can be deployed successfully. Ta-da! Problem solved.

So to quickly go over what we're going to need:

.Four people to activate the cage, and stay with the devices during the fight. These people will effectively be outside the cage, safe from the menace, and therefore can be anyone. The only requirement is that they can be trusted to push a button in sync with others, and have enough courage to stick around while the capturing is done.

.One person to be the bait. This isn't something that you want to be. So volunteering characters will be drawing straws, held by Q, and whoever gets the short end of the stick will end up being the bait. Sorry in advance to the unlucky muck who gets the job.

.As many people as possible to help beat the crap out of the ghost. This means anyone and everyone, as long as you can swing a crowbar. Powers are only a plus. And remember, you only have one hour. In game, not real time, of course.

.One person to deploy the catch. This will also be decided in the straw-draw; whoever gets the longest will be the one trusted with the catch.

So, everyone who has a character that was unaffected by the ghost is allowed to put their hand in here. Volunteer for one, two, three, or all of the four jobs, and we'll put you on the list. Results of the draw will be given tomorrow, April 19th, so you'll have plenty of time to plan amongst yourselves how you'd like everything to turn out.

See ya, and have fun! ♥
